 Topic: HD11EP Fuel Pump

First post, looking for knowledge and help. HD11EP with BUDA strait 6, I believe a '70. Fuel pump was rebuilt 20 years ago and installed correctly twice by two different mechanics with the same results. machine would start and run on 3 cylinders. Thought timing was off, spun gear 180 degrees and would run on other 3 cylinders. of note- the fuel pump that was "rebuilt" was owners nephew and this was his first rebuild of a roosa master pump. I believe the AC# for the pump is 4354214? Does anyone know the Roosa # so I can try and find one to install? I don't have time to remove and send in for 3 weeks then install as It is located in bush Alaska and needs to travel over Ice to get to location before it melts. Trying to put in an bush airstrip with it this summer. Any leads to purchase one? Any help at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all that contribute to this forum.

I'm not currently with the machine, the shop may have an in stock rebuild, just need the correct model number, then I will have a working unit to bring out and install and send the other one in for core deposit, just cost a few hundred more, but way faster as time is of the essence

Yeah, they used that pump from serial number 12201 until 16000. 140 HP @ 2050 RPM

Before getting too carried away, make absolutely sure the op doesn't have a DC. They may not interchange. Some 516 engines used a DB 2 plunger pump, but with DC spline drive. I have one of those, for M100 grader I think originally.

Ian: to answer your question- they put a double gear on the end of the camshaft to change the spee, so the injection pump drives in behind the cam drive gear.

Ok, I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking the earlier models used DB pumps, then later DC and DB were both used? I'm not sure... My book gives the option of DC or DB for 11000 MK2 engines, but doesn't show that for the earlier 11000 engine.

does anyone know where the machine serial number is located? it would save a lot of time digging out the snowbank that the machine is in currently.

Now I am being told it is an American Bosch PSB pump # T-72901- I had a guy put eyes on the pump and that is what he is saying. He also thinks he found the serial number of the machine and says it is 17L14651- Does this make sense? And to add another layer he is now thinking it is a HD11-B not -EP. I am beyond frustrated.

I just want to find a pump for this dozer and get it moved so I can work it this spring/summer. Sorry I didn't realize how problematic some of this old equipment is to figure out. Thanks to all that have helped out thus far.

Swinford's book only goes up to 18,798, end of 1974. I think you got the wrong number, off by 2 digits ans a letter. No letters, in AC serial #'s...

17L serial number is late HD11, before B series which started at 16000, with either a 25L or 16C prefix. That tractor should have a Roosa Master pump, but if it is a PSB pump, then it is likely the machine was repowered with an older engine. Engine serial number is on a plate directly above starter motor on left hand side- that should tell the story. PSB pump is going to be much more difficult to find and/or repair.
HD11 fuel pumps: PSB pump- 1954-1966 (serial number 12200) Roosa Master- 1966- 1970 Series B: Robert Bosch- 1971-1974 (16000-18798) Roosa Master- Jan 1975- end of production (early 1977)

yes agree with Trev. Late HD11EP is a 46Y serial number; after 14651 they used numbers and a letter serial numbers; but the roosa pump was fitted to E and EP units 12201 up. So it should have had a roosa pump. Series B starts at 16000 and these mainly have robert bosch inline fuel pumps. But if its been repowered with a earlier motor from 12200 below s/n they had american bosch PSB pumps.

Didn't know about the prefixes... That being so, s# puts it at very late 1969

17L prefix actually denotes HD11AG, not HD11EP- should be a standard shift crawler, basically the same as HD11E, but with minor changes aimed at the agricultural market. In earlier days these tractors went by HD11S, and HD11ES. They usually had lighter guarding, no pull hook, swinging drawbar, etc.

I finally got the picture of the actual serial number Its for an HD11EC, Bosch PSB style pump I think for an 11000 series motor. Any idea of the correct model number for the pump

Picture of the pump, Told you it was in a snow bank LOL It's also pretty rust on the outside. The tag for the machine was by the foot pedals.

1964 model year. Might try Jobbers Inc- www.jobbersinc.com- I bought a PSB pump for an HD11 from them one time. Even then (about 15 years ago) they didn't want my core back because parts were getting so hard to find to rebuild those pumps. I don't know how it stands now.

That looks to be the pump for the LaNova system, I have one of those but it hasn't turned in 40 years. Who knows what kind of shape it is in, but you are welcome to it. I have heard of people using the 100 series pumps from International Harvester to replace them.
