Topic: Hd11 intermediate pinion cover? Missing part?Posted: 21 Sep 2018 at 7:22pm |

I bought A used hd11 and it started jumping and shaking when I pushed heavier loads only, a couple hours later during one push it wasn’t steering right and started “jumping” more. Stopped the machine and noticed the cover plate to what I believe is the intermediate pinion was on the ground.
From what ican tell, this cover holds the gear in place so it engages with the main drive gear. I noticed this plate was welded on, got new bolts and was able to get 3 bolts on it and then I welded Part of it back in place It seemed to run fine afterwards but again during heavy loads it would jump (I think It’s jumping gears?) I’m thinking the cover plate might be missing an internal part that secures the int. Pinion gear bearings in place and now there’s too much slip between the cover and the bearings so when it’s under load it pops it off the main gear? I’ll have to grind the cover plate back off and remove bolts to take pics but wanted to see what people thought was the issue. It wasn’t doing this when I bought It, all the sudden started shaking/jumping one day and then the cover fell off Thanks for any help |

The intermediate pinion cover should have 5 capscrews and some shims and a cup outer bearing and the pinion have 2 locks gear retaining with 2 cap screws each and maybe the cap screws are gone and the gear slide on pinion and scrap the iner bearing.

You can find some parts books for the HD11's at Minnpar's website, may give you a better idea of what should be there and what might be missing.

Thank you
I will Definitely be needing some parts then I have The service manual But I cant Seem to find any detailed parts for under the pinion cover How it looks under the cover now is missing most all of the metal shims, there are no outer bearings under the cover, so the pinion cone bearings are riding straight on the inside of the cover plate (probably not so good), and there seems to be a threaded bolt hole in the end of the pinion gear that caught my attention when I was Looking around in there... I didnt Really want to spend $100+ for a parts manual so i figured I’d start here On a fixable scale, is this a big issue? And where should I get These parts? Anyone on here? |

Minnpar is one source for parts. Most of the AC bearing numbers in the parts catalogs can be cross referenced, or the bearing matched up if you have the old bearing. Shims can be made if you can't find any to purchased. Most industrial and bearing supply houses, as well as McMaster Carr, Grainger, MSC, etc., can get rolled shim stock in varying thicknesses, mills use it regularly making shims to set machinery.

Thanks Everyone!
Gem, I guess I just Need the pit bearing cup and then 3 shims I’d rather not disassemble the entire final drive, I’d really not even want to remove tracks if I can. Hoping to put the outer cup and shims and run it and see. I’ll email you for prices? Thanks |
