I don't think so. Different motors. Also built in different decades. Could be wrong, as the tracks are the same.

Part number for the HD4 is 245331 (Delco 1107589). If you have the parts book on the HD3 you can compare numbers. I don't have the HD3 part numbers.

HD 4 uses a center bearing in the starter housing behind the starter drive. I found a White Truck starter that would interchange all internal parts (fields and armiture and bearing plate, end plate) but front housing had to be the HD4 (AC 2200 engine)

Thanks for the info. When I try to start the HD3 it will turn over then I hear a slamming noice which sounds likethe starter is being kicked back out of the ring gear? Have a motor for an HD4 complete with starter and was just wondering.
