I saw on the news about a man in NW Ill that had about 200 acres of corn left the day before the storm hit. Seems like they said he had a few breakdowns that got him further behind than the weather had up til then.
So what do you do if you still had corn and got all this snow? Is it pretty much lost?

I've still got my 10 acre field to do. There are thousdands of acres of corn around here still to run. The snow isn't too deep, maybe 6 - 8" but it has been soo cold. -17 yesterday morning, a high of 27 today but the next days after are supposed to be back to normal for this time of the year, mid 40's. As long as we don't get real high winds, the corn will be fine.

Here in NW Wi there is a lot of standing corn. We have over 100 acres left. Crop insurance agent said they had 250. Looking out the window I can see a 120 acre field standing and that is about 20 % of what he has standing. One other neighbor down the road has a three hundred acre field standing and he said that is part of the about 1000 acres. I think last week I read that WI had completed 95% of beans and 59% of corn. Even the big operators are saying the corn condition is such that they will let it stand until spring. We have about 2000 bu in wagons and trucks waiting for some warmer drying days. Any propane shortages? Our fuel went up 40% since fall preseason purchase. One central Iowa man said a lot of corn (some his) sitting at elevators because they were out of fuel. Two big grain/drying operations in this area burned up this last week. Moisture readings of 30 plus are common. Test weights in the high 40's.....Dale

Neighbor left a half acre for me to pick with the Wood Brothers so I can supplement my wood supply. It was too wet to pick and keep in a steel gravity wagon. I may have to go pick it a few buckets at a time by hand.

I have 9 acres to pick, maybe next week I'll do it. I farm 25 acres for neighbors duck marsh and I shell it in the spring, if I have help, I put somebody in 7040 and disk behind the combine. Charlie, I've left the door open on wagon and put expanded metal over the hole and left ear corn in it most of the winter.
