Hello,
I picked up a H3 last Year with a loader. Someone has modified the loader arms to 2" x 4" Square tubing and mounted the bucket cylinders on top of the main boom arms. Their geometry is all wrong as the bucket will not Curl back when booms are down and not dump completely when raised. Dose anybody out there have the main boom and bucket linkage from a parts machine? |

Don't know where your at but theres a big salvage yard in versailes, missori called Zimmermans. You can find him on the net. Usually not to cheap but I suspect he has one in his yard. I know he does ship . norm

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I just bought the crawler from the OP. I am planning on rebuilding the loader this winter, and was wondering if someone could give the the dimensions of the original main loader arms. I assume they were solid steel somewhere around 1.25" thick, but the width is hard to guess. Thanks in advance for any help!

Mine is a 1961 with a loader bucket. The main arms are 1 1/2" X 5".

Thanks! I beefed it up for now with some 3/8x4 flat welded along side, and one extra 4x4 cross member. That helped a lot, but I am still planning on building new arms once winter sets in. I am too busy right now using it to clean up brush.

On the HD5G the first units used a square tube for support between loader arms by the attaching point by bucket pins - every one I seen has been repaired or weld cracked at this point.
Later units used a round tube brace across the area - then a bracket type reinforcement formed onto round tube / then welded in place - have not seen one of those with repairs .
Might look at this design for that lower end . |

Thanks! I wonder why the round tube holds up better? Must be something to do with the more even stress around the weld. With square tube, there is always more leverage at the corners to start a crack. I was raising the loader yesterday with a half a bucket full of dirt, and something bound up tight and broke one of the main arms, and severely bent the other one, so I will be completely rebuilding the loader. I also bought a 50 ton jack and plan on building a track press so I can turn the pins and bushings. Lots of winter projects!

On my 715B TLB loader frame they have a large oval material which is welded to the loader arm frame sides . It seems to prevent the twisting - but then I have broken each side during use in below 0 use when doing snow removal - a year or so apart but now matching welds and below the cross brace.
On them early HD5 I have seen all kinds of braces added and still signs of cracking at welds - that round one - have not seen broken |
