It occurs to me that if there are places/people to point fingers at in this catastrophe, it is the Global Warming crowd! For many decades we have been brainwashed that global warming was real and caused by humans and we needed to do something about it. But, of course, that 'something' would require great sacrifice from us peons, in personal rights and money! Of course, the affluent were immune from these sacrifices. Al Gore got to keep his five mansions, and the carbon foot print that came along with them, John Kerry keeps his jets, etc. And when they couldn't sell 'warming' any longer, it become Global Change! Well, schemers are right on that, Global Change is real, but NOT significantly caused by humans!

The world climate has been changing since the good Lord created it! All sorts of evidence to that.....

My point is, all this scheming by those that seek to get wealthy with the GW scam has detracted the world to what is real and what we should be doing. The GW/CC has been beaten into our heads that the mind set is Texas would never see weather such as what was experienced last week!

For several years now, the actual trend in global climate as been cooling. We cant change that and we cant cause that, but we can study it and prepare for it! Perhaps if, instead of pushing the GW/CC agenda where the US citizens are fleeced, and our Constitutional rights taken from us and US treaties signed that cripple our economy and endanger our security, we was studying the real trends and preparing for the results, catastrophe's like Texas can be prepared for. Stop pushing for 'green energy' when it is still not cost effective, and put the money in good ol' fossil fueled (cheap) energy! Nuke Plants, etc. and, of course winterized!

Unfortunately, Gore, Kerry, Pelosi and ilk won't get rich from that!
I am still confident of this;
I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27

Global Warming Industry is Hiding Developing ‘Cold Sun’ Dark Winter Phase

February 16, 2021 Russ Winter Articles by Russ Winter, Politics, US News, Winter Watch Articles 12

Sun Earth Moon

“A hungry mob is an angry mob” -Bob Marley

After a period of gradual global warming, the Earth is poised to enter a “Cold Sun Dark Winter.”

A 206-year cycle of solar and planetary warming and cooling has been established through historic research and climate science. Some climate researchers and scientists are now warning we reached the end of a long cyclical warming trend and, are entering a 30-year cooling trend.

But their warnings are being suppressed by the highly politicized and profitable climate change industry.

Up until recently, even the foremost expert on climate science, Valentina Zharkova, was rather tight lipped about the fact that old warming-trend models and carbon impact conclusions were flawed. The latest models have shifted to colder and sooner. She provided these revisions in November 2018 to a group of leading solar physicists — and before she began her address, received a thinly veiled warning about saying too much.

If we get NUKED, it'll be by missiles built by technology given to China by Clinton, funded by Iran money from Obama with warheads made with uranium sold to Russia by Hillary. But Trump is a traitor?

Our own planet is feeding the phenomena with the magnetic poles strength weakening and moving randomly
Gonna be a interesting Century with all this going on.

The science of pole reversal is in infancy, no one is certain as to when it exactly started or when it will be at zenith or when will complete

Many factors lead to failure, specially when you are impacted by a situation that you haven't seen or dealt with in 50 years.
Cold contracts power lines, ice weighs the power lines down, and then you have the wind pushing on the power lines causing poles to snap, and the wires will too.
And then you have the EPA shutting you down with your old "DIRTY" coal burners, waiting for removal and other power generation plants mothballed. and others waiting for certifications or updates or repair...  some simply didn't meet EPA regulations and restrictions...
Had to laugh at comments from the liberal minded fools, how dirty the coal and heavy fuel generators were and how clean the atomic generation plants were... yet they create spent fuel rods that will be glowing radiation for thousands of years to come, and they get encased in cement... or put down into vats of cooling water...   And there was talk some years back to take the spent fuel rods and reburn them and end up with even less quantity of material but now you have even higher concentrate of plutonium, as I recall, and how hazard is that stuff?

There was a graph a few days back that I seen, showing the numbers and statistics of Texas's generation plants. It showed the number of them, how many were retired, those shut down by the EPA, those waiting to be removed, those in repair or refurbishing, those waiting to be re-certified, those running how many using what fuel etc... Was interesting but now can't find it.
In some ways, I would say government regulations were part of this problem because Texas wanted to be independant and feds wanted to rule over them... and they still did control them through that Enviro-mental idiot policies...

The State Of Nuclear Energy In Texas

Increasingly poor air quality in Texas has sparked a statewide drive for clean energy production. Some areas of the state— including those around Houston, Beaumont, San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth—have been given a “non-attainment” classification by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Areas of non-attainment are high in ozone, the precursor to smog and a key cause of asthma and respiratory impairment. Austin is on the verge of non-attainment. Non-attainment is expensive for businesses and government, as the EPA implements strict carpooling, gasoline type and usage, and other harsh measures once an area is classified as having poor air quality. Nuclear energy is an emissions free source of power that is considered to be a safe, reliable and affordable way to meet the state’s rapid population growth without polluting the air.

According to the EPA and the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), generating electricity with nuclear energy prevents the emission of pollutants like sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and greenhouse gases like CO2, associated with burning fossil fuels. Emissions of SO2 lead to the formation of acid rain. NOx is a key element of both ground-level ozone and smog. Greenhouse gases like CO2 contribute to global warming.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that Texas is among the 10 states with the greatest nuclear power generation capacity in the nation, with Texas accounting for almost 5% of the national total. Nuclear power makes up less than 5% of Texas’s total electric capacity, but produces almost 10% of the state’s electricity, third behind natural gas and coal. The Lone Star State exports roughly 2% of the electricity it generates.

There are two operating nuclear power plants in Texas. The South Texas Project (STP) is in Matagorda County near Bay City, about 90 miles southwest of Houston. Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant is in Somervell County near Glen Rose, TX, about 40 miles south of Fort Worth. Both have twin reactors.

STP Nuclear Operating Company (STP) manages the South Texas Plant for its three owners, who share the energy produced in proportion to their ownership interest:

Austin Energy, 16 percent

CPS Energy, 40 percent

NRG Energy, Inc., 44 percent

STP’s two reactors can generate 2,700 megawatts of electricity, providing clean energy to two million Texas homes. The plant’s reactors went online in August 1988 and June 1989 and are the sixth and fourth youngest of the 104 operating reactors nationwide.

Comanche Peak, formerly owned and operated by Texas Utilities (TXU), was acquired by Luminant in 2004. The plants reactors went online in 1990 and 1993 and have an operating capacity of 2,300 megawatts of electricity.

According to the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the South Texas Plant and Comanche Peak combined supply 60 percent of Texas’ emission-free power and help improve the air quality statewide. Together, the two Texas plants avoided the emission of 64,000 tons of SO2, 17,000 tons of NOx and 30 million metric tons of CO2 in the year 2010. Texas anticipates significant growth in electricity demand in the coming years, and both of the Lone Star State’s nuclear plants are planning to add reactors.

The EIA predicts that demand for energy will grow by 24 percent by the year 2035. Several energy companies are planning to build nuclear power plants to meet electricity demand in a way that is cost effective and protects air quality. In Texas, Exelon, Luminant and NRG Energy have filed license applications with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to build at least five reactors in Victoria County, Glen Rose and Matagorda County. Plans for expansion in Matagorda were put on hold after the March 2011 earthquake in Japan caused a nuclear disaster at the Fukushima Nuclear Power plant, 155 miles north of Tokyo. Amarillo Power/UniStar is planning to build one additional reactor near Amarillo, but plans there have also hit delays. Upon completion, the plants could provide enough electricity to serve 6.8 million homes annually.

"The Texas power grid is not part of the US power grid because they wanted to avoid federal regulation.”

Yes, aversion to federal regulation drove Texas to isolate its power grid

In the 1930s, Texas energy companies opted for a power grid that didn’t cross state lines to prevent federal regulators from interfering in electrical sales.

• In the years since, Texas regulators have fought against federal oversight in major legal battles.

The winter blackouts that have forced millions of Texans to bear freezing temperatures without heat or power have drawn attention to the fact that Texas is the only state in the continental U.S. with its own power grid.

What could account for the Texas grid’s unorthodox layout? The answer, according to some social media users, is the state’s aversion to federal regulation.

"The Texas power grid is not part of the U.S. power grid because they wanted to avoid federal regulation," reads a Facebook post.

The continental United States is divided into three grids: an eastern grid, a western grid, and the Texas grid. The Texas grid manages more than 90% of the state’s electric load.

Is it true that a fear of federal regulation drove Texas to isolate its grid from the rest of the country? Here’s a rundown of the evidence.

The "Electric Alamo"

In 1935, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Federal Power Act, which tasked a regulatory agency called the Federal Power Commission with overseeing electricity sales that crossed state lines. Congress enacted the law in response to market domination and shady business practices by huge utility holding companies during the 1920s and ‘30s.

Texas electric companies and energy authorities immediately sought ways to stave off federal interference under that law. To do so, they elected to keep the power grid entirely within Texas borders, creating an "electric Alamo," in the words of U.S. Circuit Judge Richard D. Cudahy. Since federal regulators had jurisdiction only over interstate sales, the gambit prevented them from subjecting Texas electrical companies to any rules.

Source: ERCOT

"So eager were the Texas utilities to maintain traditional Texas independence that they memorialized the policy of isolation into a written agreement, binding themselves to intrastate operation," Cudahy wrote in a 1995 account of an energy-related court battle.

This agreement formed the foundation of the electrical grid that’s still in place today.

Five years after a 1965 blackout shut down much of the Northeast U.S., the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, called ERCOT, was formed to oversee the Texas grid. ERCOT still operates the grid, which is still out of the reach of federal regulators.

Several attempts have been made to integrate the Texas grid into the broader U.S. power system. In 1976, a Texas utility company, hoping to bring the state under federal jurisdiction, allowed power to flow to another one of its properties in Oklahoma for several hours in an event known as the "Midnight Connection." The incident set off a fierce legal battle to subject Texas to federal oversight. But the case was decided in ERCOT’s favor, and the grid remained independent from the rest of the system.

ERCOT has since championed its freedom from the rest of the United States in promotional videos. The state’s energy "independence has been jealously guarded, I think both by policy makers and the industry," said Bill Magness, CEO of ERCOT, in one of the videos.

However, the freedom from regulation has also come with disadvantages.

By isolating its grid, Texas has hindered its ability to import power from either the Eastern or Western energy systems, said Carey King, assistant director of the Energy Institute at UT Austin.

ERCOT isn’t completely separate from other U.S. grids, said King. As a result of the Midnight Connection, it has two minor ties to the Eastern grid, which can be used to pipe power in during emergencies. However, this connection isn’t powerful enough to meet demand in the event of a blackout like the one that’s just occurred.

Our ruling

"The Texas power grid is not part of the U.S. power grid because they wanted to avoid federal regulation," reads a Facebook post.

The history of the Texas power grid backs this up. An aversion to federal regulation was one of the main reasons that Texas energy companies opted for a power grid that didn’t cross state lines.

Texas has resisted regulation in major court cases.

February 12, 2021, Greg Abbott, the Governor of the State of Texas declared a state of disaster in all 254 Texas counties due to severe weather...
DEPT OF ENERGY WASHINGTON DC
Issued 2-14-21 8:51pm    Order No. 202-21-1  expire at 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time Friday, February 19, 2021.
Pursuant to the authority vested in the Secretary of Energy by section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act (FPA), 16 U.S.C. § 824a(c), and section 301(b) of the Department of Energy Organization Act, 42 U.S.C. § 7151(b), and for the reasons set forth below, I hereby determine that an emergency exists in Texas due to a shortage of electric energy, a shortage of facilities for the generation of electric energy, and other causes, and that issuance of this Order will meet the emergency and serve the public interest. On February 14, 2021, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), the Independent System Operator (ISO) whose service territory includes 90 percent of the electric customers in the state of Texas, filed a Request for Emergency Order UnderSection 202(c) of the Federal Power Act (Application) with the United States Department of Energy (Department) “to preserve the reliability of bulk electric power system.” ERCOT is in the beginning stages of an unprecedented cold weather event brought on by a rare, southward excursion of the jet stream into the South Central United States. Temperatures for Sunday and Monday in many parts of Texas are forecasted to drop well below the lowest temperatures experienced in several decades, and abnormally low temperatures are expected to persist for several more days. This weather event is expected to result in record winter electricity demand that will exceed even ERCOT’s most extreme seasonal load forecasts.
On February 12, 2021, Greg Abbott, the Governor of the State of Texas declared a state of disaster in all 254 Texas counties due to severe weather posing an “imminent threat of widespread and severe property damage, injury, and loss of life due to prolonged freezing temperatures, heavy snow, and freezing rain statewide.” On the morning of February 14, ERCOT issued a system-wide conservation notice addressing the expected system emergency and describing steps that homeowners and businesses can take to reduce system demand. 1 ERCOT has also worked with state agencies to take measures that maximize generation availability in Texas. For example, on February 12, the Railroad Commission of Texas issued an Emergency Order pursuant to Texas Utilities Code affecting the gas utility systems in the state. The order specified increasing the priority of gas supplies to ERCOT generators. ERCOT’s application also noted that the “Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has indicated that it will provide enforcement discretion to generators in the ERCOT region that may exceed state emissions requirements during emergency conditions.”  According to ERCOT, the measures taken by ERCOT and other state agencies may not prove sufficient to avoid rotating outages of as much as 4,000 MW. Moreover, 1 ERCOT, Grid Operator Requests Energy Conservation for System Reliability, www.ercot.com/news/releases/show/225151.
Page 2 of 4 - ...  ERCOT has been alerted that numerous generation units will be unable to operate at full capacity without violating federal air quality or other permit limitations. ERCOT requests that the Secretary issue an order immediately, effective February 14, 2021 through February 19, 2021, authorizing “the provision of additional energy from all generation units subject to emissions or other permit limits” in the ERCOT region. The generating units (Specified Resources) that this Order pertains to are listed on the Order 202-21-1 Resources List, as described below. Given the emergency nature of the expected load stress, the responsibility of ERCOT to ensure maximum reliability on its system, and the ability of ERCOT to identify and dispatch generation necessary to meet the additional load, I have determined that additional dispatch of the Specified Resources is necessary to best meet the emergency and serve the public interest for purposes of FPA section 202(c). Because the additional generation may result in a conflict with environmental standards and requirements, I am authorizing only the necessary additional generation, with reporting requirements as described below.  FPA section 202(c)(2) requires the Secretary of Energy to ensure that any 202(c) order that may result in a conflict with a requirement of any environmental law be limited to the “hours necessary to meet the emergency and serve the public interest, and, to the maximum extent practicable,” be consistent with any applicable environmental law and minimize any adverse environmental impacts. ERCOT anticipates that this Order may result in exceedance of emissions of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury, and carbon monoxide emissions, as well as wastewater release limits. To minimize adverse environmental impacts, this Order limits operation of dispatched units to the times and within the parameters determined by ERCOT for reliability purposes. Based on my determination of an emergency set forth above, I hereby order: A. From February 14, to February 19, 2021, in the event that ERCOT determines that generation from the Specified Resources is necessary to meet the electricity demand that ERCOT anticipates in Texas during this event, I direct ERCOT to dispatch such unit or units and to order their operation only as needed to maintain the reliability of the power grid in the ERCOT region when the demand on the ERCOT system exceeds expected energy and reserve requirements. Specified Resources are those natural gas, coal, or distillate fuel oil generating units set forth on the Order 202-21-1 Resource List, subject to updates directed here and as described in paragraph D, which the Department shall post on www.energy.gov. ERCOT is directed to update Exhibit A to its Application with the anticipated category of environmental impact (i.e. sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury, carbon monoxide emissions, wastewater release, other air pollutants) by 21:00 Central Standard Time on February 15, 2021. B. To minimize adverse environmental impacts, this Order limits operation of dispatched units to the times and within the parameters determined by ERCOT for reliability purposes. Consistent with good utility practice, ERCOT shall exhaust all reasonably and
Page 3 of 4 - practically available resources, including available imports, demand response, and identified behind-the-meter generation resources selected to minimize an increase in emissions, to the extent that such resources provide support to maintain grid reliability, prior to dispatching the Specified Resources. ERCOT shall provide a daily notification to the Department reporting each generating unit that has been designated to use the allowance and operated in reliance on the allowances contained in this Order.  In furtherance of the foregoing and, in each case, subject to the exhaustion of all available imports, demand response, and identified behind-the-meter generation resources selected to minimize an increase in emissions available to support grid reliability: (i)with respect to any Specified Resource that is an ERCOT Generation Resource or Settlement Only Generator whose operator notifies ERCOT that the unit is unable, or expected to be unable, to produce at its maximum output due to an emission or effluent limit in any federal environmental permit, ERCOT shall ensure that such Specified Resourceis only allowed to exceed any such limit during a period for which ERCOT has declared an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 2 or Level 3. This incremental amount of restricted capacity would be offered at a price no lower than $1,500/MWh. Once ERCOT declares that such an EEA Level 2 or Level 3 event has ended, the unit is required to immediately return to operation within its permitted limits; and (ii)with respect to any Specified Resource that is an ERCOT Generation Resource whose operator notifies ERCOT that the unit is offline or would need to go offline due to an emission or effluent limit in any federal environmental permit, and to which ERCOT has issued a Reliability Unit Commitment (RUC) instruction, the operator may make all of the unit’s capacity available to ERCOT for dispatch during a period for which ERCOT has declared an EEA Level 2 or Level 3. This incremental amount of restricted capacity would be offered at a price no lower than $1,500/MWh. Once ERCOT declares that such an EEA Level 2 or Level 3 event has ended, the unit is required to immediately return to operating at a level below the higher of its minimum operating level or the maximum output allowable under the permitted limit. In the event ERCOT identifies the need to exceed other relevant environmental permitting levels, ERCOT shall specifically identify such permitting levels and DOE will consider ERCOT’s request in good faith. C. All entities must comply with environmental requirements to the maximum extent necessary to operate consistent with the emergency conditions. This Order does not provide relief from an entity’s obligations to purchase allowances for emissions that occur during the emergency condition or to use other geographic or temporal flexibilities available to generators.
Page 4 of 4D. -  In the event that ERCOT identifies additional generation units that it deems necessary to operate in excess of federal environmental permitting limits in order to maintain the reliability of the power grid in the ERCOT region when the demand on the ERCOT system exceeds expected energy and reserve requirements, including any such entity to which ERCOT intends to issue a Reliability Unit Commitment (RUC), ERCOT shallprovide prompt written notice to the Department of Energy at AskOE@hq.doe.gov identifying in an updated Exhibit A to its Application such additional generation units, the fuel type of such unit, and the anticipated category of environmental impact, at 9:00 Central Standard Time or 21:00 Central Standard Time, whichever follows closest in time to the unit identification by ERCOT to the greatest extent feasible. Such additional generation unit shall be deemed a Specified Resource for the purpose of this Order for the hours prior to the required written notice to the Department, and ERCOT may dispatch such additional generation units, provided that if the Department of Energy notifies ERCOT that its does not approve of such generation unit being designated as a Specified Resource, such generation unit shall not constitute a Specified Resource upon notification from the Department. The Department shall post an updated Order 202-21-1 Resource List as soon as practicable following notification from ERCOT under this paragraph. E. ERCOT shall provide such additional information regarding the environmental impacts of this Order and its compliance with the conditions of this Order, in each case as requested by the Department of Energy from time to time. By March 1, 2021, ERCOT shall report all dates between February 14, 2021, and February 19, 2021, on which the Specified Resources were operated, the hours of operation, and exceedance of permitting limits, including sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury, carbon monoxide, and other air pollutants, as well as exceedances of wastewater release limits. ERCOT shall submit a final report by March 31, 2021, with any revisions to the information reported on March 1, 2021. In addition, ERCOT shall provide information to the Department quantifying the net revenue associated with generation in excess of environmental limits accruing to non-RUC units in connection with orders issued by the Department pursuant to Section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act. F. This Order shall be effective upon its issuance, and shall expire at 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time Friday, February 19, 2021, with the exception of the reporting requirements in paragraph E. Renewal of this Order, should it be needed, must be requested before this Order expires. Issued in Washington, D.C. at 8:51 PM Eastern Standard Time on this 14th day of February, 2021. Nukes in the US will not ever happen again
NRC INPO DOE have all but destroyed that industry with What If regulations, not that there were not issues somewhere across the globe with some dough head doing something stupid but cannot attain a All Coverage what if proof facility EVER and attempting to do so just makes them impossible to build
Four new nukes were started in Ga and SC
Ga plants are slowly coming together where the what if gang managed to get the SC plants closed playing games

The complaint was the contractor was charging them too much delivering too little but then the rest of that story is the regulators playing games behind the scenes as to materials, labor, and the magic wording What If.
China has already built Six of this style plant over there
Have them generating power and built them under budget
You do the math.

As to spent fuel
The old assemblies get to a point the roughly 4% uranium enriched fuel has been utilized where cannot sustain a reaction
That is because the still existing uranium in them is not in a correct position to produce reactions
They can be reprocessed, France has been doing that 30+ years
They can be utilized in a different type reactor (thorium)but again does produce plutonium
The old assemblies are now being stored Dry un-encapsulated in Helium cover-gassed containers on numerous plant sites
These can be transported safely placed on rail cars and either sent for reprocessing or stored forever underground

New Assembly, CAN be hand handled

Dry Storage Containers unfilled.  These 'Bottles' are filled, capped under water then transferred to a dry pit where the cover cap is welded on the water is removed and helium cover gas installed after the assemblies have fully dried then placed inside a transport vessel and taken to a in ground storage Bottle  set in Concrete below grade.

The end results were the length of time to cool down to a marginal level was much faster than estimates of years to no months, the rate of Decay(Radiation Emissions) decreased exponentially after removal from the spent fuel pool where documented radiation surveys of the vessels underground revealed they had decreased by a factor of four from what had been estimated by engineering.  The point is these will be safe to move cross country where anyone within 50 feet of the train will not see a radiation dose greater than just being Outside in Sunlight.

They were warned? who warned them Steve Bright? please supply links, or documentation to support your assertion.

re: “ They were warned? who warned them...”

yup, did NOTHING of any substance for 21 years and another NOTHING for the past 10+-.

They kinda got what they deserved..though once again the peons get squat and the CEOS reap in huge bucks.. same old, same old

I just find it ironic , that a state that has HUGE amounts of gas ,oil and refineries can't weather a wee bit of a cold spell.

They were warned and did nothing ???

CUstomers did not want increase in their bills.
Business did not want to increase costs.
Govt Officials did not want to pass bills adding COST to consumers.

EVERYONE thought the  "once in a lifetime" weather , would not come on Their Watch.

Yea, didn't do much towards correcting the incidence from 32 years ago,  and then the masses that ran from the liberal states such as CALIpornia to get away from the liberal delusions there, end up in Texas and contributed to the overload of the grids...
More than one contributing factor... and that all contributes to the BS that just happened.  Just like the feds ruling and reigning over what power plants can run and those they shut down... by their mandates and regulations.

Our area small utility is forever upgrading their power poles and lines and cutting trees and cutting brush back from them... and now burying their cables though I don't like that idea when critters like gophers chew through the coatings and cause problems.
... they use to have two power generating dams, they have sold their dams to a big power company that has since shut them down.
I haven't heard the local generator running in years, doubt that they have fired it up in a long time. It use to supply electric to all of town and 10 miles or so around back in the 70's, Now the utilities buys their kilowatts from a big supplier in MN. and we have had more power outages since then, and bigger areas go out when that happens.  ... Plus the other utility electric supplier to the south, they go out when ours utility goes out, because they are now hooked to the same power line as ours is.
I believe we are far more vulnerable today than we were back thirty years ago, and takes longer to get back up now too...

REA Here had Power Stations all along the MO river(Cooling Water).  They started shutting them down as EPA forced MORE Fees to use Coal based on GARBAGE Philosophy and NO REAL TIME DATA just Guessing against 250 year documented Weather Cycles.  The Earth works on MUCH Larger Cycles and Scales.

Gosh, it's almost like natural disasters happen, if only someone could predict what the future holds then we all could be prepared and have nothing to worry about, shoot we could finally get rid of insurance.  I was told I had to carry insurance on my pickup, wait what? if everyone knows that a wreck will happen then why not make the vehicles wreck proof. After all shouldn't TX have prepared for the Rio Grande to freeze over?

This is what happens when you set around thinking Uncle Sam is going to take care of it for you, if your so cock sure that all these events are going to happen then get yourself prepared.  If you lived in TX Trammy says you were warned, and that very well could be true, but if you lived in TX and were warned as Trammy says(which is probably correct) and didn't get yourself prepared and set around waiting on Uncle Sam to do it for you then your a fool and no lose to society if you freeze to death.  I mean seriously these cry babies are bloobering about and they were what a week without power or 2 weeks, give me a break!  Seen ice storms in the last 10 years that had people without power for over a month and guess what they didn't even bitch,  because they didn't wait for Uncle Sam to get them prepared.

I heard it could flood in Houston, ok fine if you live there you have 3 choices, leave town, buy a boat, or shut the hell up and quit crying when you swim out your front door!!
If we get NUKED, it'll be by missiles built by technology given to China by Clinton, funded by Iran money from Obama with warheads made with uranium sold to Russia by Hillary. But Trump is a traitor?

well, I specifically asked Steve Bright, since he made the statement....I really wanted to see HIS proof, but since you jumped in, we will never see it now!

Your 'proof' seems to back up my premise, the article was concerning the coldest period in Texas history, a freak! a one in a couple hundred year event! Given the relentless warnings that the globe was getting warmer ever since, the gamble Texas took was not an unreasonable one.

I'm reminded of being told 'to save for a rainy day' when I read about 'cold Texas'. Seems to me they KNEW it might happen and did NOTHING. While you can't win a fight with Mother Nature, you can minimize the damage she unleashes.
Don't 'they' now demand be built better for  stuff like levees for the '400 year floods' and buildings for '7.7 earthquakes' ??

Built by humans is bound to fail regardless
Best laid plans of mice and men all come tumbling down

Pretty well can guarantee if they make changes and write them down as soon as ink dries is time to rewrite it as not good enough.

Can what if this as armchair quarterbacks until the cows come home
Still armchair quarterbacking until Live it
Been thru the 75/83/93 Mo floods
Been thru tornados
Lived thru power failures ice storms multiple heavy snows rains that washed out roads and always managed
Those that buy ‘cheap’ in the bottoms earn that cheap later
Those that buy in Tornado alley and build there but do not build tornado resistant or build in high country forest and not build fire proof are just fools fooling themselves with that
“Can never happen here” logic

last year ,or 2 yr ago ( been awhile)....
HUGE floods in Toronto and Ottawa ,etc.as Lake Ontario was NOT allowed to be lowered cause it'd flood out the 'lower sections' of Montreal ! Once again the IDIOT in charge, said 'no'...so that his quebekes wouldn't get their feet wet...so Ontario paid the price.
I see it locall as well... the 'dam operators' never, EVER open up the flood gates BEFORE a huge rainstorm..then all hell breaks loose when the dams, gee whiz, overfill....
NO common sense.....

WE have known about THIS FAULT for 200 years..... Have really done NOTHING to prepare for NEXT TIME... Is it next week ?  Next year ? Next CENTURY ?   WHO KNOWS !

The New Madrid Seismic Zone (/ˈmædrɪd/), sometimes called the New Madrid Fault Line, is a major seismic zone and a prolific source of intraplate earthquakes (earthquakes within a tectonic plate) in the Southern and Midwestern United States, stretching to the southwest from New Madrid, Missouri.

The New Madrid fault system was responsible for the 1811–12 New Madrid earthquakes, and has the potential to produce large earthquakes in the future. Since 1812, frequent smaller earthquakes have been recorded in the area.[1]

Earthquakes that occur in the New Madrid Seismic Zone potentially threaten parts of eight American states: IllinoisIndianaMissouriArkansasKentuckyTennesseeOklahoma, and Mississippi.[2]
