Evie is in 6th grade this year and 6th grade is the first year you can be in band. She chose the friggin trumpet. I now know how my folks felt when me and my brother were learning to play music. If Dad we're still here he'd really get a kick out of this. He was the only one in the family that didn't play something so he kinda got the triple effect

Oh yeah we had recorders. I remember pawpaw saying "put that damn thing down!" Then he stuck it on top of the clock in the living room and it's still there. That's been about 30 year ago

I'm sure one day she'll be great. Sings like a bird and picks the piano up really quick. But today ain't the day

Not a ‘musical bone’ in my body. I have trouble some days playing the radio! 🤪🤪
Growing up, we had ‘recorders’ those were issued by the school, had a money deposit that was returned when the course was over.
Our mother would absolutely not allow any of us kids to spend money on musical instruments when we were growing up. She told all us kids, when ‘move out and you are on your own’ you are free to do what you want, but while you are living under my roof, there will no musical instruments in my house.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

I tried the saxaphone when I was in HS, that didn't last long as I couldn't figger out when the caps was covering holes and it didn't sound different! then I lost interest in other horns, I'll tell Evie to practice lots in her bedroom and in the family room! Don't send her outside...might scare the chickies!

Oh don't you worry bout them chickies good buddy. She makes sure to be in the living room with ALL OF US when it's time to practice. I drove my folks crazy with guitar and bass and my brother did with drums so I guess I had it coming

Starting a kid on a reed instrument is more expensive in the long run than giving him a carton of cigarettes and a Bic lighter.
