This little guy ran great all last year, then one day decided not to start. I had spark, and gas ran out of the drain on the carb.....so it sat for a year. Today I had some time to trouble shoot....only thing I could think of was the carb, but it had been rebuilt by the po. Anyway, I pulled it off, which wasn't easy due to an aftermarket manifold that wouldn't allow a box wrench on the back bolt....had to take off the air cleaner, which is a job in itself on an IB. Anyway, I got the old one off and took one off a locked up donor C and put it on. Fired right up....now what could go wrong with a carb that would cause it to totally fail? I haven't taken it apart yet. I always thought if I had spark and gas these guys would run, but this is was an exception. It wouldn't even pop with a shot of ether...

My bet is the float needle stuck in the seat. You'll be able to duplicate that condition when you take the old one apart. It seems the newer needles with the rubber tip are prone to that.

You didn't say whether you re-connected the air cleaner again after you installed the carb off the C. If you didn't, there might be an obstruction in it blocking incoming air. No air, no run. If you did re-install the air cleaner, then it could be a blocked nozzle/ emulsion tube.

This sounds like the story of the blonde who took her new Italian sports car to the mechanic because it wasn't running right. After about 1/2 hour the mechanic comes out and says it's fixed. The blonde askes "what was wrong" The mechanic says "Just crap in the carburetor". The blonde asks "How often do I have to do that?"

Hey Eldon, Don't forget those small jets at the bottom of the carb. I still remember Pop taking them appart on the Post Office table on newspaper - yes my Mother also ran the Stevenson, MD Post Office - and using parts tag wire to clean them.
Fixed a lot of problems.
In any event you got it running.

One more possibility Eldon. Had a carb professionally built, No Gas. Carb was clean as a whistle inside. Ended up replacing the float with a used one. Reassembled, installed it and it fired right up. Apparently the new float was touching the sides of the carb and hanging up not allowing fuel past the needle and seat. HTH

Since I had gas in the bowl I figured the float and valve were ok. Plugs were dry, so it wasn't getting gas to the cylinders....always had luck with ether in that situation. My guess now is it must be a plugged jet, which would be weird since it has an in-line filter on it.
