I read in either TAC or the OAN that Gleaner was here to stay. Gleaner accounts for most of AGCO's sales, and farmer opposition has been too great to drop them.

Thats what they said with the Agco tractors when the DTb series was introduced, that it was going to stay. Gleaner was supposed to have a big new deal in 2019 or that what i was told at the farm show this past winter. Their future is grey like the paint they put on them.

In the last issue of Old Allis News they had an interview with John Keller from Agco/Gleaner and he assured that gleaner was here to stay and they have a ten year plan for it. I don't think gleaner is going anywhere.

And if you look at the front of the feeder house on the Fendt/Massey/Ideal combine, it looks like Gleaner components only wider.

I know Agco has done stupid things like gettting rid of orange tractors BUT, they have poured a ton of money into the Gleaner combine. More than they did to Agco tractors. I wouldn't think they would throw that away after investing so much. My feeling is the Ideal machine will phase out the current Massey and challenger axials and they will offer the Gleaner and the Ideal/Massey/fendt. But again they have done more stupid things in the past.

A buddy of mine interned for Agco a few years ago on the big square baler side. He said they spend less on Gleaner than any other brand. Its like 5/1 or 10/1 ratio. Gleaner also only gets 2 or 4 interns compared to 20 or 30 for the balers. |

That's true. My mom lost a job with an oil company in the 80s, during the big oil bust. At their last meeting, everything was going great, then a week later the company was sold and all workers were laid off.

Been working at a dealer since 2000. Have been asked that same question every year by customers. So it hasn't happened in 17 years. When you do ask someone at AGCO they strongly say no. With the orange tractors when you asked them they would sheepishly say no. If old Marty wasn't in charge we would probably still have orange tractors. But the company seems to be moving forward more under his control. Do Germans hate the color orange?
We are also a New Holland dealer and have been lied to by them as well. I was told that they tractors would ALWAYS have the Ford name on them also the replacement to the T8000 series tractors would have SuperSteer as an option. Farm equipment companies are a lot like politicians.

In the corporate world, ALWAYS be very concerned if ANY higher management presents themselves at ANY meeting. It only occurs when CHANGE has ALREADY happened.

I hope that they never get rid of Gleaner, but I am pretty sure that it's out of my control. AS far as companies blowing smoke up people's asses; well that's been happening for years. A former boss of mine said that in 1959, he was talking with a John Deere rep at a farm show. This rep was talking up one of their old two lung tractors, and said that John Deere had no intention of ever building a tractor with a four cylinder engine. That two cylinder was just that good. Well, I guess they changed their minds, and developed that four cylinder one hell of a hurry, because it came out in 1960. Darrel

Such uncertain talk of Gleaners demise sure doesn't help its future. Wouldn't it be smart of AGCO to make a public statement that their was no truth in that rumor at all & fully embrace the Gleaner future ? The fact that they won't has to make a person wonder. So much for market share.

I saw the article on the Ideal machine and it never said a thing about Gleaner just Fendt and Massey. Started me wondering how long till Gleaner was no more.
But maybe other parts of the world need different features. If you check the major on line used equipment sites JD sells different combines in Europe and South America than North America.

Remember the 100 Gleaner sales to China? No to worry about the Gleaner. If AGCO won't make them, the Chinese will.

Agco’s history of doing stupid things is what has me alarmed. If they used logic the Massey name would have been cut in the US instead of Allis. When I worked for Dow Chemical they sold a business that made 40 to 45 million a year because it didn’t fit the strategic blue print.

Been thinking of this post a lot in the last few days. IF, IF they were going to drop our Gleaner from the line, what would AGCO do with the Heston factory? It is to new to let it go unused. To me it would be shooting yourself in the foot not from the top down, but from the bottom upward. They would have to go out of your way to loose money.
If anyone from Gleaner is watching, give me a twist grip throttle like a motorcycle on the hydro lever. Put a cruise control on the hydro-stat. If I want to go at only 4.5, it will only go 4.5 even though I push the lever clear ahead. And the 7 cylinder engine has got to go ------- GO IN EVERY LAWNMOWER, SPRAYER COMBINE AND TRACTOR YOU BUILD!!!!! That is without question the smoothest engine I have ever heard. And if you want to shoehorn one into my old 7080, I say go for it. I'd even paint it gray and add a red stripe.

As memory serves and while people that now own Massey's or CNH tractors will attest they swear if Allis were put back into service using AC parts styles and not something bought from somebody else repainted orange or relabeled AGCO they would be buying them. Deere Had and currently Has the majority sales but that is declining as CNH takes a lot of those sales price wise. They are all the same tractor save color or plastic parts Case, NH, Massey, even the Deeres carry resemblance to them and yet each has a steady following in the US but they are all the same same only difference is a little control position and color.
Before the demise years, Allis had the innovations, had the quality to stand for DECADES, had the ability to drive markets for their product with Deere, MM, Massey and Ford following along steady behind. They kill off Gleaner they may as well do as Allis and sell the entire shebang as they will push the rest of us to CHOKE SPUTTER, Deere, as they have the dealer service numbers the others do not. |
