    Posted: 12 Oct 2011 at 4:54pm
I am stumped.  I just installed a new set of ignition points in my K, along with a new coil.  When I fired it up, it ran rough and then quit.  When I tried to restart it, I now have no spark, and the key switch wouldn't turn it over, so I have run a jumper wire to the coil and have crossed the starter and it will turn over, but the points won't spark.  What have I done wrong?  The points are gapped properly.  Thanks for the help.

Kevin make sure that you did not pinch any wires in the process and short them to ground.Make sure that you have power going to the coil and didn't break a wire. You should have battery voltage at the points, not full spark voltage.good luck.By the way,do you live on Hwy 27 just north of Schomberg? I went by there and saw a 700 in the driveway and what looked to be a 190 on a forage blower.Good luck,Tony

Hi Tony.  I am the one with the 7020 in the drive, and my neighbour, which used to be my dad's farm, has the 190.  Thanks for the info!

Sounds like a device failure, most electrical devices that fail will fail fairly quickly after powering up.  A lot of people are reporting poor quality condensers out of the box these days.  I would double check all the parts are still good.

Hope that helps!!

What is weird about this GM setup is the power wire and condenser wire is a 'press' fit and not held with a screw.  I am wondering if one of them is not making contact somewhere.

Unfortunately, with Ignition products being made very cheaply in foriegn countries, the quality really went out the window. Wouldn't surprise me in the least that the point set could be faulty. I've seen it happen quite often in the past few years. The products just aren't the best anymore. Darn shame. Toss in another set of points with a new condenser and keep yer' fingers crossed.....
