Ok, I got one item fixed now on to another. The variable speed pulley on the F. The belt has a chunk out of it, so white its apart to fix that i thought i would take the pulleys apartband clean them and grease them up since they dont work correctly. How do i go about dissasembling them? Thanks

Leave them alone. Grease them twice a day (2-3 pumps). Run 2nd gear slowed down instead of 1st gear wide open.

You may need to grease the lower sheaves with diesel fuel if they aren't taking grease. Lower sheave repairs might be getting you into a place you don't want to be time wise and $$$$$$$$$$$$ wise.

All i have is 1st 2nd and third wide open. And yes they wont take grease.

I think i can get the variable speed pulley to work, but the lower pulley (on the transmission) does seem to react to the upper pulley. Slow the upper pulley down and belt gets loose

belt is supposed to get loose when you slow it up. should be tight when you speed it up. appears your pulley is starting to wear groves at the guide pins. watch that really close. you don't want to have that hub behind those pulleys break....I mean YOU REALLY DON"T! take the grease zerks out and dig the old grease/dirt out as much as you can and replace the zerks for the grease. the upper pulley in hyd moved, the lower pulley moves in and out by way of the belt. there's a big spring inside the lower hub to keep tension.

I understand that it loosens up with slowing down. As one pulley opens up the belt gets looser. But isn't the second pulley supposed to take up the slack by using the spring inside? Right now it doesn't do anything and only looks like its moving in and out a miniscule amount.
I noticed that the pegs were getting some grooves wore on them. How do I go about rebuilding that set of pulleys after season? |

The spring on the lower sheaves can't squeeze them back together due to lack of GREASE and now the lower inner sheave is stuck !! Diesel fuel in a grease gun with the belt removed and a big hammer might get it to slam shut....maybe. Twice a day 2-3 pumps of grease. Did I mention twice a day ???

Drallis, the inner half is the one that actually moves, the outer one is stationary? So if I take off the big nut on the outer half I can remove it and then free up in the inner half?

The outer one is on a tapered hub and won't just fall off on it's own. If you remove the outer and the inner is stuck under spring pressure and suddenly lets go, there's nothing to stop it. I would remove the belt (or get it out of the lower sheaves) and pump diesel fuel into the inner hub and try and rotate the sheave while pounding on the backside with a big hammer to see if it won't pop loose on its own. That's what I'd do. You do what ever you want.

Ok gotcha. Thanks. That is what I was worried about. I figured there was a spring under pressure in there somewhere. I will try to get it works free as it is first. Thanks Adam

Sorry I did not get back and post an update. I've got the variable speed fixed a new belt on the only thing I need to do after season is take the lower pulley apart and get it all cleaned up where it will take grease but otherwise everything is working good now. Both pulleys move in and out freely now, but I still do not have adjustment via the handle. I'm wondering whether I need to adjust the throw of the handle

UNLESS THE LINKAGE IS SLIPPING, you will be able to either speed it up or slow it down one or the other - The handle should not hit the console in either direction - the valve spool travel should stop the lever movement - not the front or rear panel slot. There is a set screw on the linkage and a male/female tube going to the vs valve. IF the VS will not work and the spool IS moving all the way in / out for sure, then the relief poppet in the valve slice is not maintaining pressure. 71126920 is the relief housing - the pressure is adjustable after overcoming Loctite on the adjusting slotted plug that tightens the spring..

I can speed it up but I cannot slow it down. After sitting overnight it will slow down naturally a little bit on its own that is fine there until I speed it up again
