I have an A/C B1 lawnmower with a B&S model 19D motor, I believe it is a 7.5hp. Im trying to set the points. The manual says to set the points to .020". I do not get any spark set at .020", I increased the gap to 0.20" and I get spark and the motor starts. The flywheel and keyway look ok. I set the magneto with a piece of card stock. I ordered a new set of B&S points(#298185) and condenser(#298060) to see if that would held. Im not sure what is causing this problem. Could the magneto be bad? Im not a mechanic so try to take it easy on me. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Craig

I've also got a 'new' B-1 and am working on getting her running.  It's definitely a unique points/condenser set-up!

Got any pics?

On a 19D the magneto is gapped differently than on the newer engines. It has a 3 leg coil which I believe is gapped at .020 instead of .010-.014. The points should still be gapped at .020 also.

I put in a set of new points and condenser yesterday, used all OEM parts. Set the points to .020" and put a new spark plug in and the old girl started right up. Big smile I guess she just needed a little TLC.

Thanks, Craig
