Hey, does anybody know what became of the Allis Chalmers Test Farm near Racine, Wisconson? Is it still owned by the corporation? Is it still being farmed by ORANGE equipment? It would be interesting to know. Does anyone on this board live near there?
sometimes I walk out to my shop and look around and think "Who's the idiot that owns this place?"

charlesinnc told me that there was also a farm near Richmond, Va.  I'm outside of Richmond, but I've not looked for the farm yet.

At our last club meeting, Sam Winker a former Allis employee spoke about his years at the 200 acre test ground.  His employment covered the time when the D-21 was being tested and refined.  Interesting man.  Oh, and he was wearing an original Allis orange and black  baseball cap,  with the allis patch sewn on.  It was given to him during his employment.  Well worn, but neat to see.

The test facility was closed down when Deutz took over.  During the GOTO in Union Grove I had the privilege of touring the former test facility.  It really wasnt a farm.  It had a shop and test area.  The shop must have been an amazing site, the front had offices, behind that was a machine shop capable of building most any part, the shop resembled a modern implement dealership shop with the exhaust vents in the floor.  The test track itself has been sold separately and developed.  The shop was just recently purchased by a new owner, who I believe was going to rent out the facility.  We were given a tour from a former engineer.  Very fun experience.  We saw the former dyno buildings and even the giant freezer that they would roll over the tractors for the roll bar tests.  After being there I recognize many of the pictures in Norm Swinford's books.  Many of the pictures of the 100 series and up were taken there including the picture of the infamous 195.  I believe even some of the advertising photos were taken there as there was a wooden area to the west of the shop making this a nice location for scenic shots.  I do have some pictures, I should scan and post them sometime.
