 Topic: Blizzard brought out the WD today

Snow was really blowing when I got up this morning. Was going to wait to plow until after lunch, but 2 were stuck in the street in front of my house, and while getting the WD started, another neighbor asks to be plowed out-needed to be at work at 10. 2(f) degrees and it still started quite well-must be the 10W30 oil Dad had me use! BUT, the hydraulics took a LONG time to work right. We garage off of an alley, so digging out requires getting to the street as well, so it took quite abit of time. Asked my wife to take some pictures, so here ya go!

Just came in from clearing away 8" of very wet snow - we woke up to heavy snow (5:30) which turned to rain around 10:00. What a mess! D14 with a bucket and scraper blade had all it wanted moving this stuff. Took twice normal time to clear the driveway, and THEN I started in on the lane to and around the new barn! Whew! I've got 300' to the barn and then a wide enough area that I can drive around it hauling my tandem axle trailer. While I was at it, the south roof dumped its load of snow just after a pass along that side. Glad I wasn't there when it came down!

Got a seat warmer on that old girl? The thought of sitting in that seat at 2 degrees gives me chills! Sweet pictures though, I to second the path to the Bud truck.

Greg, great pictures, but you are making me look bad. I have come up with a dozen excuses, why I can't blade the drive yet, and the tractor I'm using has a cab. Actually I am trying to wait until the wind dies down. I don't know how much snow we got, it varies from bare ground to 6ft. drifts.

Just got in from 7 hours of snow plowing. Wet, heavy stuff, now the wind has picked up and the temp has plummeted. Was just barely freezing when I started at 5:30 this morning. Supposed to be -4 by morning with 40 MPH winds, brrr.

Terry, I just read that Hwy 6 between Council Bluffs and Oakland has several cars stranded because of 10 foot drifts! That would be something to see, but not be stranded because of!

We got very little snow but fierce winds and cold, it is now just 14 degrees. My 180 sits under tarp with a 9' rear blade at the ready and a cord to the block heater should I need to get her started.

We were lucky and missed the snow.....but not the cold. -5 here right now, and suppose to -35 tonite with the wind chill!

omahagreg , looks like you can push pretty well without chains, were you getting a little spinnage? Cleaned up about 16" here in the UP today, AC's are put to bed, the Kubota, aka old smokey did the dirty work. , Hey, she's still Orange!

I gave the D15 II a real workout today, with the Allis SC blade on it with one extension on it. Found out real quick that I needed to put the chains on if I was going to get the job done. That little tractor sure has some spunk, didn't let me down though, and we got er done. I'll bet she will sleep well tonight after all that. Resting in the pole shed now!

I just sat here in the house all afternoon trying to keep warm. The power went out about 12:40pm and they said it would not be back on till 7:30 pm. Thanks to some linemen, it's back on by 5:45. We are almost back to a reasonable temperature in here. Greg, you need a heathouser on that rig.

Yes, I did get some wheel spin. It was so cold, I had to choke it bunches to make it run, but when it was set right, I could push to the pile and let it spin while the blade came up. That way the tractor pushes it up the pile, makes for nice stacks! Slippage was mostly at the pile though! Seems to have all sorts of power, fluid does not hurt either!

The weather man was perdicting 8 inches of snow here but probably got 3 inches. But we have a 20 mile an hour wind out of the north west thats blowing it all over . Shure makes me glad i have a cab on the d17 to sit in. There is no heat but it keeps you out of the wind. geat pictures

I would have liked to give the D17D a try on the back blade. There's no way the CA would have done anything but spin. (no fluid, weights, chains) The deepest drifts here were just under 4'. Took a while with Dad's old walk behind snow blower, but at least I can get to the end of the drive. The road's another story...

Feel for you on the tractor. That wind this morning was cold. I was pretty comfortable in the 8070 with the heater on. I bout frooze to death trying to put the blade on in a snow drift. The shed is too full to have the blade on the tractor. We had some 7-10 ft drifts. I was spinning out it the big drifts with front wheel assist pushing with the loader. I see the road grader only made it have half way on our mile. I wonder if he broke something. The drifts were solid. He went back around with the plow up with only one pass. That was this afternoon and haven't seen him since. Our neighbor has 40 acres of unpicked corn down the road. Looks like the drifts are over the top of the corn in the first 20 rows. That'll have to sit until spring or a good warm-up.

I spent 3-4 hours plowing mine and two neighbor's drives. Most snow we've had at one time in the 20+ years we've been out here. Have a heat houser on the '45, so its quite a bit more comfortable than you greg. Snow plow did go by later in the afternoon.

Got about 8 to 9" in Lincoln overnight. Had good intentions of gettin out and gettin at it this afternoon. Well, the 5040 wouldn't start even though it had been plugged in and battery maintainer on.
So, to jump it, I first had to get the driveway cleared to get the Dodge PU out. Took the trusy JD 188 and snowblower and of course got stuck trying to clear the walk to the house. Got that unstuck, got the PU out, jumped the 5040 and let it warm up for 20 mins.
Neighbor volunteered to run the 188, while I was on the 5040. The city doesn't come down this dead-end street, so we're "on our own". Took all afternoon to get the driveways of 5 neighbors done and the street somewhat cleaned up. Will have to get after it tomorrow again...need to get some gas and diesel.
Had all kinds of trouble with spinning; probly spent as much time gettin unstuck using the loader bucket than getting the snow moved.
Tires are weighted, but cannot get a good grip........snow just compresses to ice, slick as all heck. Don't really want to use chains, but may have to.
Keep thinking of what would make an ideal snow pusher / blower. Whatever it would be, it'd have to have an enclosed cab, heat, and TRACTION.
