Helping my friend diagnose his 185 lift arm issue. it has blown the seals in both lift cylinders, left side first and now the right side is leaking bad. I haven't been around this tractor in 30 years when I ran it for his grandfather pulling gravity wagons during the harvest season. It hasn't seen much use in the last 20 years since his grandfather passed away.  Anyway, I stopped by to see if I could figure out what was going on. He doesn't use the lift arms anymore and after blowing the seals out of the left side he just unhooked the line to the left cylinder and put a plug on the end of the hose. Not the right decision but he did that to get by until he had time to remove and have the cylinder replaced. Using the tractor to pull the square baler or wagons. A month later the right side cylinder started puking fluid. So I got on the tractor, made sure the lift arm control was in the neutral/no lift position and started the engine. the lift arms began to raise, so I moved it to the float position and they still came up. Once they came all the way up it began puking fluid out of the cylinder seals. It appears to me as if it is stuck in constant lift mode. The control rod is moving the control valve through its stroke and feels normal. He doesn't have a service manual on the 185 so I don't have anything to refer to. I'm thinking maybe something is stuck inside the valve body causing it to be in full lift no matter what position the control rod in which blew the seals out? Seams like I remember someone mentioning placing a screwdriver in the access hole on the back of the control valve(bumper plug)and pushing in on the spring to see if its stuck? Is this correct or what do you suggest to figure this out. This has to be hard on the pump and its hard to tell how long he ran it in this condition. I would have suspected a noticable change in the engine and pump sound as it was dead heading the pump? But he said he had not noticed any change.
Thanks in advance for your help

Better be checking the relief setting. Those aluminum pumps split open when stressed.

Not to hijack this post but does anyone know the collapsed length of the top link on a 190?
None of my aftermarket ones go short enough, off by about 3 inches
