Planted some Jimmy Red corn, the plan was to grind, mash and brew it, but the entire field has tall strong stalks but not a single ear to be found.  It hasn't tasseled yet, got planted late due to rain, the seed was two years old as raccoons got last years crop and I had enough leftover to plant this year.  It was dry for a while after I planted it but not a drought by any means and it is bottom ground.  I just never experienced this before, any  answers or ideas?

I would wait to see the tasseling.
Do you have a plan for ground this fall? Like a cover crop that has certain ‘window’ to get in the ground?
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

.

Jimmy Red gets eight to ten feet tall. Just be patient with it. It will tassel first and then send up the ear.

Have you done the mash before or are both processes new? General advice is only do one new task at a time.

This forum may help, or so I'm told:

Another option is get oak smoking chips to put in a mason jar and fill with the bottom shelf cheapest vodka you can find. Wait some time. Then whiskey to bourbon depending on surface area to volume and time. It's a complicated mathematical equation... Lol.

Good luck!

I’ve got watermelon and cantaloupe intermingled now, last year, after the great raccoon heist, I disc it up and planted turnips.

In my line of work, I have run into a few people that have various levels of experience, one was a distiller at a brewery before getting the government job. I have stalks 12 feet tall now, and I didn’t even get to put nitrogen on it because the wet weather and tractor show prevented the second cultivating. It’s just something I wanted to try, and making use of some of this copper lying around.
