Backed out of the shed the other day and tractor would not come out of  reverse, shifter will not move out of reverse. Thought I would ask for suggestions of what may be possibly wrong before I tore into it. Tractor is light duty only, pulls fuel trailer around yard and occasioal parade. Thanks for any help.

There are several threads on this topic on this Forum.  Google Allis Chalmers wd/wd45 gear shifter stuck in reverse, or use the Forum search tool

Here is a link to one of the threads on this Forum - good directions

I have a D15 Series II with similar issues, and same sort of procedure to sort it out

My 0.02$ CDN worth, make darn sure you don't drop anything down the hole when you open up the top access to the transmission.  There are keys on the side of the hole the shifter sit in - handle very very very carefully!!!!!!

Good luck
