Roto baler discharge springs

I recently picked up a roto baler that seems to be in decent shape and I have received a spring kit form agrisom already along with a manual but my trouble is I am missing both discharge springs on the back. Are those available somewhere or would a garage door spring work? These are pretty rare in my area so spare machines are hard to come by let alone someone who’s ever used one!

If you don’t mind checking and would be willing to ship to Maine that would be awesome. Still tempted to try a garage door spring. Weather is starting to look better to get hay on the ground and want to try it out before I commit to cutting any. Any thoughts on how rugged the discharge spring are?

Thanks Gary. My other thought was a trip spring off a snow plow. The springs on my baler are missing completely so I’ve got no idea what size they possibly were. Was hoping someone had been through it before.

I’m probably being impatient trying to get this thing going🤣 I’ve only seen one other rusted out one in person besides the one I bought I’m sure I will have a lot of questions when I get everything priced together. Probably will only do a few hundred bales a year if I can get it going. If not it will look nice parked next to the rest of the orange stuff 🤣

Unfortunately my owners manual doesn’t call out the part number only that they are the discharge springs.

To be clear  are you referring to the two springs that hang on the upper rear of the baler that can be hooked and unhooked?

That is it,they need to be unhooked when the baler isn't in use.AC made a special tool to hook/unhook them but a claw hammer works fine.Also #1 thing on those balers is before EACH time you use it tap the side of the brake to make sure its not stuck,if its stuck when you start to make a bale it can do major damage.

I have been around roto balers for years, and I did not know that those springs were supposed to be unhooked when the baler is not in use. I don't remember reading it anywhere in the operator's manual. Never seen them unhooked on the 100 or so of them that I've seen out of use. Guess that I learn something new every day. Better start unhooking them on the one that I use.

That would make sense as to why mine were missing. Supposedly the previous owner purchased it from an older gentleman who had used it and was unable to anymore so they must have been misplaced. The brake was the first thing I checked and it was loose so I did oil things up and hooked it up to my 45 at idle and got things moving. Figured after sitting so long it would be good to work some fresh oil and grease into things before putting a load on it. It did trip and drop the twine arm and all the belts seem to track good. I did buy a set of lower belts as those don’t look so great and didn’t want to be dead in the water because a belt broke.

Thank you all for the help. I’ve wanted one of these roto bakers for years and have only seen a handful come up for sale and this one happened to be in okay shape and at a price I could stomach. I’ve got a square baler for back up but hoping to roll a few bales up for my finances goats……
