does your tractor have an old generator... or a newer alternator ?

It's under the black part of the hood for the steering column. Had trouble with mine some years back. I'll see if I can find a link to that thread.
Found it, may not be a big help though. Edited by IBWD MIke - 4 hours 9 minutes ago at 8:09am |

If some body put the new type alternator on you don't need the regulator

should look like one of these... a generator uses the voltage regulator... and OLD ALTERNATOR can have a regulator also.. NEW alternators do not need a regulator, it is internal..... How was the tractor charging the battery before without the reg ?

that looks like a Delco with a tack drive ?? If it charged before WITHOUT the regulator, then i would assume it has an INTERNAL regualtor... You can look at the TWO PIN CONNECTOR and see if they are parallel to each other or IN LINE with each other.. But since it WAS WORKING.. i think you dont need the regulator wires, but need to make sure the TWO PIN CONNECTOR is part of the NEW HARNESS.
check the two wires on the small plug on the alternator... something was rewired at that point for the alternator... you need that on your new harness. Edited by steve(ill) - 2 hours 49 minutes ago at 9:29am |
