My very early one ninety gas has developed a hydraulic issue when it's cold out. When I start it up when it's cold out it'll take sometimes, up to 15 minutes before I get anything at the remotes. Every once in a while, it'll even take a few minutes until I get steering or power director, but usually those functions are there right away. Steering will be a little jerky sometimes at first. The colder the temperature is, the longer it takes to get hydraulic functions. It has cenex quick lift hydraulic oil in it, and it's good clean oil. Only thing that I can think of, is that last summer I did take out the suction screen along the left hand engine frame rail, and cleaned it. Really wasn't any debris in it anyway. Maybe something in there is letting it suck air, and causing it to not get oil right away. This is the first winter that it's doing this. As soon as the remotes start working, they work good. There is a loader on it, plunged into the remotes, and once the remotes begin to work, loader function is perfectly fine. Just as fast as it ever was (which doesn't break speed records, but is good enough) and still has good lift capacity.
I've thought about eliminating that suction screen, because I see that the newer ones (like my XT) don't have it anyway. And like I mentioned, there was no debris in it anyway.
Any ideas what's wrong?
Thanks, Darrel

Step #1. remove that screen filter inside the left side frame and replace with a piece of exhaust pipe from Auto Zone. Use 2 new rubber hoses and 4 clamps to eliminate air sucking. A lower radiator hose from a WD works very well cut into lengths that fit. Make sure all other suction tube related hoses are decent and clamps tight.  Step #2. If step #1 fails, you could try and remove the hyd pump itself and replace the drive shaft seal and Oring on the front of the pump.   Step #3. If all else fails, it is time to disassemble the hydraulic  triple pump assembly and at a minimum reseal all three pump sections and six brass wear plates. I would also replace all eight needle bearings, paying little attention to any wear on gears and shafts BECAUSE the pump still works fine, just loses prime. When repairing a problem like this, I usually always just did everything at once, not three different attempts at it. When doing it for hire, time is $$$$.

Had a 706 IH I used for cow feeding for years, on extreme cold did what you are saying, I just let it run til warmed up some.  Also put a loop hose in remote outlet to circulate oil to help warm up. Probably not the right thing but add a couple quarts of diesel to the hyd oil.

Remove suction-return manifold on bottom of torque housing and check screen. And for sure remove the suction filter before pump. Also should use hose for oil not radiator hose.

For 45+ years I have used a regular WD lower radiator hose on the suction tube of those tractors hydraulic systems. I have never once had a failure. I have never once had to replace one for softening from oil. You're thinking right, but as a dealer, we always had a WD hose on the shelf to cut to length and used it instead of hunting down a special "oil resist" hose. You aren't wrong to think a special hose might be needed, but it isn't.
