My Model C has a reproduction seat which consists of a piece of plywood and about four inches of foam padding covered with some cheap vinyl. It is better than nothing but I don't really like it. I do like the wide platform as it allows one to squirm around and also I enjoy giving the grandchildren rides, etc. so I do not wish to convert to any type of single bucket seat.

I am contemplating building a seat more like the originals which had springs inside and could be built to withstand a heavier operator (me) without bottoming out and jarring my backbone the way the foam padding on plywood does.

Does anyone have information as to how the originals were constructed? Did they use webbing underneath to support the springs, or did they just use a solid board?

I am not concerned with building a show quality factory original type seat, just a good, sturdy, functional and comfortable seat.
I have been watching some utube videos of upholstering and I believe this is doable.

Thanks in advance Smile
