Allis guy I knew passed away he had an L2 parts machine.   His son is cleaning up his stuff and offered to sell me the motor out of it.  What size motor did they have?  Texted my parts guy and got more confused.  Knowledgeable Allis buddy says 426.

Any L-2 that had a hydro tranny was a 426 engine. There was that 1980 model year that had a 301 at 130 HP (7010 engine) and a 301 intercooled at 145 HP (7020 engine) and then the 426 at 158 HP (7045 engine). So, better look to be sure. That 145 HP could have been a hydro maybe in a 1980 build.

It may sound weird but I have an 81 model L2 Hydro with the 130 hp 301, it came from Eastern Washington originally, the dealer there actually sold quite a few set up that way for some reason, cost savings most likely.

We had a hydrostatic L2 with the 145 hp 301,  It was an excellent combination I thought.  The sound of that engine when it first started up in the morning was like music to my ears...

Not that I'm adding much to the conversation but the 301 intercooled I would think would use far less fuel than the 426. Would that be true? My L2 with 426 still used far less fuel than my R52 with the 8.3 Cummins.

I think the one year they discontinued the M2 there may have been some 301's in above average #'s as the lower powered L2 was supposed to fill that slot. 81 ?

Did some of those engines have the Simms injection pump?

Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed

Mine was a corn soy special Dan.  Compared to an L3 with the 426 =I think the L2 was more fuel efficient.

Pretty sure the Simms was only on the early straight L/M (through 75). Later ones (76) got the Roosa DM according to a sheet I have for timing specs.
