i told the old lady....ooooops....i mean the loving wife today that i'm putting my industrial lots up for sale. then with the money generated from that we'll build a steel building home with a large shop/storage area attached. depending on how many acres we get for it, i may keep some of my farm equipment and use it again. crops grown should pay the taxes at least. plus it'll feel good to go out and exercise sitting on the tractors and combine! we've wanted to build a new house outta a wood framed steel clad building for many years, just never could afford it. now we will be able to hopefully. will prolly be an Astro or Lester building.

Unless Astro has made some big improvements over the last 25 years a Lester will be twice the building.  The Astros around here have half the lumber in the roof than the Lesters, although the Astros are lots older than the Lesters.

Good luck selling the lots, hopefully they'll bring more than you need.

Shameless,
I have been told I am an "enabler"!Smile Pretty proud of that too!
Many times I have encouraged, prodded, poked, cajoled, mentored, helped, planned, consulted, listened, and talked others in to spending massive amounts of money on their projects too! Why should I be the only one?
I wish you the best with your sales and building plan! We are not getting any younger and I hope this is something that you can make happen and live happily ever after! I dont know about these buildings brands. I am sure you will choose wisely! Hope your bride is fully on board!
Will there be room to move the "machine" into one bay?? Just sayin.....!
Yes we need pictures too!
Regards,
Chris

Build something like that and you could have the house part up stars, of course it would have a elevator to get you up and down.  Oh man, Dale, will the forum have a great time helping you design your new building.  I was getting worried now that Chris is getting his closer and closer to being done, what would we have to "work" on once he says,- Finished!
I wonder which cost more, the barn or the green monster, I'll bet they were pretty close to the same.

Friend built a 60' x 120' shed with 40' on one end as shop then on the end of the building they added a 40' x 60' office area with a kitchen and 2 bedrooms and  full bathroom. Just about anyone that sees it says they could live in it. Pretty nice in winter when you can go from office to shop without going outside. It is well insulated with floor heat and heat it all with a small LP water heater. His was Amish built.

we were also thinking of a "T" style building, NO BASEMENT, heated floor in living area, double insulated, colored concrete in living area, BIG kitchen (gathering place), man cave room or another built building out in the large shop area, LED lighting all over, and lots of plug ins for 120V items. will prolly still have a framed in hole for a window ac unit. and the old lady....ooooops.....i mean the loving wife will have a garage for her vehicles...and mine! camper storage and for guest quarters.

**grabbed my rifle and wiped it off, thinking bad thoughts about that Steve fella** oh...and Leon, been holding my own so far, still lots of pill taking, been able to get outside a bit to walk, don't get far, but the legs are working so far. used the cane the other day, sure helped! have a fella making me new steps for my big boy pickup, the Dodge i just bought has the steps and some great grab handles on the door posts that help me alot getting in. Kansas...i have a Astro building (40x60) and it is built stronger than the stockholders new Morton building. i also have a Wick 40x60 building, it's steel framed. i did find out that Astro and Lester are sister building companies.

Back in the 70's when I was in my 20's I had dreams of moving either to southern or western Colorado from the, even then, crowed eastern slope.  One of my plans was to build a quanset style building and have the living quarters in one end of it and the shop/ machine shed in the other end.  Great idea, but life got in the way and I didn't have the money to make it happen until I was too old to want to pull up stakes and move.  Things worked out OK where I am but I always wonder what if?

It's good to see you guys thinking of the future, I'm hoping 2021 brings a better outlook on life, especially if the vaccine gets out quickly.

While I've got your attention, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!

My place in north central Iowa (3 acres) that I'm retiring to has a 54 x 72 Morton pole barn, but with a dirt floor.  I'm in the beginning phase of putting a concrete floor in about a third of it, for a 28 x 54 shop.  2" pink foam insulation, rebar, 5 or 6" concrete then pex tubing for radiant heat.  Work has stopped due to Iowa weather (with me stuck in Illinois), for now...

All of our radiant floor heating is foam with 4" of concrete the garage and shop have rebar with tubing attached and the wire above and pulled up as the cement went in, that has been in 15 years and there isn't a crack in it.
