My 6 volt generator was on the fritz so I took it to my local automotive electrical shop for maintainence and she replaced the cut out relay with a three position voltage regulator. I assume the green wire still goes from the resistor to the generator field terminal. But where does the wire from the discharge side of the ammeter go? And since I have a three position light switch, do I now need a two position one?

Actually, moving to a VR is a nice upgrade for the 6V system. You won't need the 3 position switch for the charging side of the system anymore, but if its equipped with headlights, the switch will still take care of that side of the equation.

Wiring to the VR would be:  "F" (Field) to "F" post on Gennie, GEN or "G" to "A" post, Ammeter Neg. side (-) to BAT or "B" terminal on VR.  To Polorize, jumper wire from "B" or BAT to "A" or GEN terminal on VR for a couple seconds. You'll get a spark, that's normal. Then fire the Tractor up...
