    Posted: 23 May 2020 at 4:34pm
I just bought a WD, and the serial number is 209286. I know I'm not reading it wrong, and the serial numbers ended at 131,273 in 1953. I'm almost 100% positive that the tractor is a WD, not a WD-45. How is my serial number possible?

It would seem that someone replaced the complete 'rear end assembly' with one from a WD-45.

Does it have a Curved Shifter ?

BTW where are you getting the Serial No. from on the tractor ?

Serial # is located on left rear housing and is stamped in not cast in.---look again at your tractor!

Matt... your engine... look at both sides of the block. Are both sides smooth, or does ONE side of the block have a large metal plate with lots of bolts holding it on?
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

I did not do the research to be able to help you with the serial number. But I will throw this in the mix. We have a WD that had the rear end changed and does not have the original number on the back. I am still kicking myself for not getting the original serial number off the casting we scraped!
Regards,
 Chris

The engine is a WD-45 engine. I'm starting to think that the tractor is a WD-45. My neighbor who I bought it from swears up and down that it is a WD. The hood has 2 WD decals on each side, from previous bad repaints. Maybe the hood was replaced? In not sure. Other than the serial number and plate on the right side of the engine, I don't know anymore differentiating characteristics.

That would be a 1955 WD45 if all else is in agreement.

Engine serial number is behind the carb/air cleaner hose and would read 45-XXXXXX-G. If it is a WD engine it would read W-XXXXXX-G or P.  If there is no serial number, the block has been replaced one time in the past and no one ever stamped a s/n in it.
