I ran across a '17 diesel at a local farmstead that has primarily older Oliver tractors as "museum" pieces. In the corner I spied some orange and investigated. It was a D 17 diesel with a snap-coupler but had a strange tall lever to the left of the seat and no lever on the right side of the torque tube like our D series had(15 and 17) to disconnect the snap coupler . Any Idea of the series of this machine ? The owners son says it runs and is curious if there's any value to it. I saw rim mounted wheel weights on it and was N/F. Thanks and have a safe holiday weekend !!

Shuttle clutch option. It takes the place of the Right side Big Stick.

Are the '17 diesels "desirable" ?? What prompted my "snooping" was a snap coupler 3 bottom plow sitting in a fence row , never known this particular operation to have ever run AC equipment.

I think the 17 diesels are desirable AND a money pit. When you get done switching or refurbishing an engine block and a cracked cylinder head, you'll then need to go thru the injection pump and injectors. Of course the starter will need to be rebuilt and two fresh batteries for good ( as good as they are) starting. Then, the engine is done and on to the rest of the tractor.

I'll add that a pair of 1000 cca batteries with a 2/0 cable to the starter will crank forever, even at -10. Edited by Brian Jasper co. Ia - 24 May 2020 at 11:53pm |
