 Topic: Fuel bowl????

Hi everyone.
Is there a trick. Doing spring service on D17lV and changed the screen in the fuel bowl. With new gasket. Seems to leak a little. Don't remember ever haveing this issue in the past. Thought maybe even though gasket is new it still has been laying in bin for years and is dried out, needs to soften up a bit.

As a old mechanic I used to soak fibrous gaskets in engine oil or ATF prior to installations, for Cork nothing and limit torque, for synthetics just make certain ABSOLUTELY clean.

There is a 170 here that the sediment bowl base is bent from overtightening.

I had the same problem. It may be time to replace the entire sediment bowl assembly. It will set you back about $30. Money well spent and for me no more leaking fuel.

Tighten it up a little more. I've used pliers and have never broke a glass bowl.

Most leaks I find are on the shut off valve.

With the bowl just snug, turn the bowl against the gasket a turn or so to seat it, will sometimes help and then tighten a little more,

Have you checked to make sure the metal side is good and clean? If it is, put it outside and let it leak for a while. When the gasket is saturated with gas, you will be able to hand tighten it a little and it should stop.
