This past summer the governor on my "C" flew apart. I bought a new one, but am unhappy with how it responds when I pull the throttle open. Is this a common problem? Did I do something wrong when I put it back together?

I have 4 C's, 3 B's, and none of the govs. work real great on them. They get you by but act kinda weird.

Yes, something is wrong it the engine is not snappy on the gov. These engines were so quick that one had to have a light spring on the rod from the gov to the carb - pulling straight down - to take the slack out of the linkage to prevent gov "hunt" a condition of
rapid rpm fluctuation. Timing could be off - carb setting - gov linkage binding - the spring I talked about could be pulling the carb to the slow position rather neutral. Or the link from the gov to the carb could be too long or short - it has to be matched to the carb.

I will check the linkages. The carburetor and timing should be good.

The cross over arm needs adjusted. It is set by pushing the throttle lever all the way forward. With the linkage from the carburetor pulled all the way toward the cross over arm the linkage needs to be about 1/16" past the hole as in the picture. The cross over arm will need to be bent to get proper adjustment.

I rebuild governors if they are not to far gone. I use an aftermarket gov as an example of a poor gov. I am looking for more to rebuild if you care to send them my way. When the weights are tight, the gov works great. lselkriver@gmail.com.

The governor that went bad was in pieces. Part of the governor was in the oil pan.
