Glad everyone is safe.  They sure are dangerous.  Had one come close by once when I was young.  It drove pieces of straw straight into the yard light pole.  Never saw anything like it!  And I don't want to again.

In this photo that someone captured just south of Taylorville, I believe two storm cells, each with tornados, convened into one big twister.

Back in my college days, I took a weather class as an open elective. The professor explained how twisters can have multiple vorticies that spiral about the main vortex funnel. Here is a photo that someone caught near Morrisonville of this tornado's jumping (lift, then re-establish) character. Notice the numerous vorticies (3-5) as the main vortex tries to re-establish.
Another crucial part about this storm's furious super cell is the fact that the sun is continuing to add solar energy(heated humid air) to surrounding open sky. The super cell literally sucks this warmer humid air into it's counter clockwise Low pressure spiral (main vortex), then accelerates this warm humid air vertically upward causing rapid cooling thus creating condensation/ice crystals. Those ice crystals culminate into large hail stones which usually exit just ahead of the twister.

Don't you go getting any ideas, Shameless, that "pretty machine" of yours does enough damage.  We don't need no "tornado machine"!

Before the F3 hit Taylorville, there were actually two tornado storm cells. I think the stronger cell started by Stauton. That's the one that passed closest to us. It tracked on the east side of IL Rt 48.
Over by Farmersville, a second tornado cell was similtaneously at work. That's how I remember seeing on TV as my wife & I went to our basement(no TV there). Later after we came out of our basement, I believe the two cells had joined near Clarksdale, then unified, one big wide twister hit Taylorville.

Too close for me. It is the wrong time of year for weather like that.

One went through here Friday night Carroll and Madison counties. We saw a lot of big trees down and heard tell of some roofs and barns gone south of here. It got windy here in the holler but we missed the golf ball size hail and the tornado .

AC Fleet, Glad you are all ok. That same storm's Tornado passed within 3.5 miles of our farmstead (4:50pm). At about 5:15pm it hit the SW side of Taylorville hard, then lifted up & spared the center & eastern side of town.
Lots of chainsaw & electrical crews in Taylorville, today. I think social media & TV channels 17-Decatur,20-Springfield,& 3Champaign efforts must have given people a good 30 minutes warning. So far, have not heard of any fatalities in Taylorville area. It could have been much worse. We are very Blessed!

I'll upload a photo of the Tornado later. Right now, our internet is very slow.
