Tomorrow being "black Friday" by most people's standards, it's considered "Brown Friday" by plumbers everywhere. Terrible but true, statistics show that tomorrow is the busiest day of the year for service calls for plumbers. Guess over indulging on thanksgiving, results in an over abuse of the plumbing, the commode in particular, the next day. So, Pat, I hope that tomorrow is a profitable day for you, and not a nail biter. Hee hee. Don't have a ty day! Or, maybe, go ahead and have one. Darrel

I wondered about that before and came to the same conclusion that a septic system needs more water than what people would think. I know around here a lot of old houses in the country have piped the washing machine drains out on the ground instead of the septic tank, but if the tail lines are clear the extra water should keep everything working right.

Darrel, when I started at this career 31 years ago the Friday after Thanksgiving was always the busiest day of the year. My first boss said no one gets that day off. Now something has changed and it's usually not anymore busy than any other day. Black Friday has had a lot to do with it .They are all out shopping instead of sitting at home clogging toilets. Clogged kitchen sinks is what usually kept us running . I will be working tomorrow but it is a bathroom remodel .

Seems with the new low flush units the amount of water to carry things all the way down the pipe is lacking sometimes - especially if you have old cast iron pipes involved .
I always hold the flush handle down a couple extra seconds when paper or other solids are involved but otherwise a short cycle now with just liquid .
The old 5 gallon flush or 3.5 gallon flush had a reason for being and a 1.8 or 1.2 gallon just doesn't clear the pipes well all the time .
Now with water jetting for pipes it has changed the way pipe cleaning is done though and a more complete job can be done clearing lint and grease .

I totally agree that "Black Friday" is something crazy for plumbers. However, it is a very nice chance to make a lot of money. I know a lot of people who say that plumber can't earn more than 500 dollars, ha-ha. They haven't seen our receipts during such days like Black Friday. I have been working as a plumber for 3 years and I am totally satisfied wish my salary. On https://www.howtobecomeaplumber.org/ there are examples how can earn a certificated plumber in different states. Think that there are no bad jobs, there are bad specialists. It is very interesting to read your stories.

Don't miss the days when I was doing sewer repairs and installing systems or trying to fix old ones .
Cast iron pipes grow shut as things cling to the pipes , had many cast iron pipes between tanks close up from a slow trickle of water between tanks (including my own) so replacing that cast iron with Sch 40 PVC was a common thing .
Another problem are the new high efficiency furnaces where a trickle of water goes down pipes and systems can't be installed deep - the pipe freezes shut if not enough water goes down the drain daily .

I've answered the phone several times:

"Hello, (City name) sewer plant, your is our bread and butter"

Last time I did it was when my Mom was on the other end!

There was a sewer pumping service in southern California that had shinny black trucks with gold leaf scrip writing on the side "Your s$%t is our gravy"

When I was taking the Building Inspection Degree Classes - one instructor was talking about a new Stadium on a college campus . To test the system for final inspection they sent a crew to every rest room to simulate a 1/2 time break in a game where a rush to the lav's would happen .
On que they started flushing everything - and repeating it several times -
UNTIL the water pressure dropped and the main drains overflowed into streets , college dorms nearby stopped flushing - pipes plugged and a total disaster on campus resulted .
New sewer lines had to be added , new water mains brought into area and another crew was sent to clean up the mess in the dorms and other campus buildings
