Hello all! I am working on a hd11-ep that was included with some land my father bought. I think it was sitting for a few years but I dont know anything about its history. We were able to get it running but the left side tracks could not be controlled. Got some manuals and started taking it apart to find the bearings on the left side pinion completely gone and a hole in the outer bearing retainer! I have some new bearings ordered but the inner bearing retainer is wallowed out a bit. I don't know if I should run it like it is or look for some parts. Any advice? I can weld up the outer bearing holder but I'm concerned the inner bearings will spin in the retainer. Maybe i could weld the cup to the reatainer?

running with loose bearings will only lead to another failure.   unfortunately the proper fix is not easy or cheap and likely why it was parked.  aside from a complete housing, the bearing bore would need to be welded and or sleeved and machined and that is not a simple task.  depending on the damage, it might be possible to knurl the bore and locktite the bearing cup in.  any welding on the cup will ruin it so I wouldnt bother as its life would be very short.  really depends on the extent of the damage and if you are willing to fix it correctly or temporarily

Fastest fix is to have a Mobile track mechanic come out, re-bore the bearing bore oversized, sleeve it to a close dimension then re-bore to critical dimension. Not cheap but unless looking to scrap the machine is the only really good fix. Wear area will not be square to the original bore, welding will do it for awhile but will still require a boring job to square it back up where weld will hold but may not for long.

Parts manual shows it being 70655628. Its the first pinion attached to the brake drum hub.
Im a little confused on the line boring, if I could find a good inner bearing cage from another machine are they swappable?

Was unaware of the type bearing supports, these should be available out there, check with General Gear in Boise ID or Zimmerman tractor in Versailles MO.

Many as my own Allis have bored bearing supports inside the main housing. If these are unavailable used then a trip to a machine shop and have them sleeved would be a course of action.

my apologies.  i assumed intermediate pinion.  in your case i would tear it down and replace the 2 items you stated with good used parts as you will be better off in the long run.  this will require pulling the steering clutch but better than trying to bandaid that inner housing in having another failure in the future.
