    Posted: 03 Jun 2018 at 5:03pm
I just finished getting the mower deck on my 720 and it starts leaking fluid from the transmission oil cooler. It would just creep along back into the shed. Would appreciate any help on taking apart and advice on fixing this problem. Thanks, rrhead(SD)

Check your oil level in the transmission first. May be very low in fluid. Is it leaking at the oil cooler or is it one of the hoses? How long has it been since you changed the fluid and the filter? Should be changed every 400 hours. I had a filter that prematurely failed and caused the creeping issue your having.

The oil cooler is easy to access. Remove the 2 bolts holding each side and it lifts up. Removing the small side panels gives better access to the hose clamps. The hoses may need to be replaced if they are original as they tend to dry rot.

Thanks for the quick responses. Complete fluid change was done about 3 weeks ago. Put on a Wix filter. It is dripping down from behind cooler. Hopefully it is hoses and not cooler. I will check level in morning and get the cooler apart. Thanks again, rrhead(SD)

One hose was leaking really bad. Of course, it was the hardest one to get at, but finally did and replaced both hoses. Question, do I have to prime the hydraulic pump? Filled it up to the dipstick mark. Seems a little sluggish going up an incline. Thanks for the help. rrhead(SD)

I replaced both of my hoses and I remember taking a fitting and plugging into the front hydraulic coupling and activated the hydraulic lever for the front. I placed a box in front of it full of
Old towels to catch the spewing fluid. It makes a mess but relieved the trapped air. Replenish the fluid. I didn’t loose that much before it cleared the air. Maybe a pint. No driveline issues experienced. Worked for me.

Got the 720 going the other day. My Grandson and I used both of them to mow with and cut the time to mow down by an hour and a half. Mower worked fine. Could use some new blades in the future. Thanks for the help. rrhead(SD)
