I'm looking at my conversion van, it's a total loss from hail damage two weeks ago here in Alabama. My insurance claim is being handled by a "team".  When I get to heaven there won't be any insurance company's to deal with.

Insurance companies can be a pain in the rear. Since they are using a "team" that must mean they are ganging up on you and trying to weasel out of paying. That is what keeps the TV lawyers (Cheatham & Howe) in business. The adjusters try to pay as little as they possibly can and not what is fair although there are some exceptions. Years ago when I managed the home repair section for one of the big box I had a friend at owned an insurance agency and when he had a customer with a home damage claim he would call me and tell me to see that it was fixed right and send him the bill.

Don't let them beat you down. Had Dodge Caravan near a 100,000 when all the transmissions failed. So that was new plus a valve grind cause of bad lifters an other little stuff. Told them it was fixed so I could drive it another 100,000 miles. Got double of what the first offer was from them, but all work was in the last 6 months and had the paperwork. They sure drug there feet on it,but I never hired a lawyer.

Did Dewey leave the firm? Dewey, Cheatham & Howe I think was the law firm for Click and Clack's "Car Talk" along with Pickoff Andropoff their Russian chauffeur, Heidi Ductible the insurance agent, and lug nut specialist Tad Tolouse.

Da lawyers in da UP probably tend bar in their off time!!LOL

I lost a truck once, probably was only a year or two old.  Sorta rare for the area, Mazda, ex cab, 4x4.  They totaled it and I was preparing for a fight.  The guy called me in and gave me a check.  I ran for the door when I saw the amount, nearly what I had paid for it.  There wasn't anything they could compare it to for value.  I was smiling all the way to the dealership!

I've seen hail damaged repair before.  they bondoed the dents and painted it.  Couple years later the paint was polka dotted.  The way they do body work now, especially paint, it might not be as bad, but it would definately depend on the repairer!

I wish you good luck with your problem.  And if they don't want to fix it, do some research on the net for the value, KBB, Edmunds are a couple sites, so you know how much you should get.  Then turn around and buy it back from them.Big smile

We were in a hail storm once with our class C motor home. The aluminum roof got dented all over, did not leak. The hood on the van chassis got a couple of small dents. Over a time period of a few years, the dents in the hood seemed to get smaller.

I have heard that if you put ice cubes on the dents RIGHT away, they'll pull the metal back out.  I've never tried it, nor know if it even works.....you DIDN'T hear it here....an that's the truth......Pffft!

Insurance is a necessary evil.  When it comes time for some insurers to settle a claim , they have policy and procedures.  Which is another name for dirty tactics.  Low ball offers are the most common, non-exisitant comparable vehicles , they are sloppy when it suits their their needs.   My claim is not a big deal, buuutt the cranky old guy in me will assume negotiations  soon.

Many Car Insurance Companies are bypassing Adjusters and going to Computerized Adjusting whereby the Insured takes the Vehicle if drive able to an approved repair facility and pictures are taken uploaded to the company. The claim is approved and presto in a perfect world every body is happy! Experience is still the best teacher and even good Adjusters can miss something. Also all Insureds need to read and understand their Policy and have an agent that is able and willing to take the time and explain and meet his clients needs or wants. Also shop around every so often and compare. I did for my Farm Insurance and saved myself some money. I did not change Agents or Companies but I did learn a lot and had my Agent make some adjustments!

Gary, I dealt with dozens of different ins company's while I worked for a car dealership. Several ins company's now use teams to settle claims. They still send out adjusters, the team remains in the office. I always had good luck with them. Good. Luck to you.

Remember my old saying Gary, your insurance agent, Attorney, Banker, and financial adviser are never your friends, necessary, but never your friend.

Keep in mind that down deep they love you you'll see next time the premium is due. Just like politicians at election time.
