I am looking at a tandem axle trailer, it has two 3500 pound axles. Does that mean it is a 3500 pound capacity or is it higher? (ie 2 x 3500 = 7000) .
It has a checkered steel plate deck and is 16 ft long. Looks really study. and ideas on a good price?

Add them together. If they are both rated at 3500 you would have a 7000 lb trailer.

I've got a tandem 7000lb. 3500 each axel, wood deck, 2-5/16" ball, breaks on both axels, with break away breaks, landscaper type, for sale $1400.

A little additional clarification. Axle specs are for the total amount of weight the tires are allowed to put on the ground, which in this case is 3500 each for a total of 7000 pounds.  The axle specs become the gross weight spec for the trailer itself. so usable load is 7000 minus the weight of the trailer. Usually it means a payload of 5000 to 5500ish.
