The first step to my rebuild was to take the head into a local machine shop to be surfaced and checked. I got a call this morning telling me that there are several cracks in it. That said, I am looking for a head for the 4 cylinder diesel 175HP. If someone has one collecting dust, let me know please.
Thanks,
Don

Cracks are normal. Are they good or bad cracks. I think every 175 CID head is cracked. Was it leaking water? Do they go into the fire ring area?

I agree; cracks in a precombustion chamber head is almost a given.  Depends where the cracks are.  Get a second opinion, have somebody with older diesel experience look at it, and if still in doubt, pressure test it.
