Thanks Dan, it's something we ALL need to brush up on every year.
Gotta go visit my friendly weigh scale near here and ask the State Troopers some specific questions. This is one of the times you need to ask for permission first and forget about the asking for forgiveness. Saves $$$$ this way.

Ted, a long time flat bed driver/hauler told me one time that with a load properly tied down you could turn the trailer upside down and the load would not move. Better too much tie down than not enough.

Ok so he says a 8000 lbs tractor needs two chains that will hold 4000lbs each am I understanding that correct 8000 cover 1/2 is 4000 lbs 2000 front 2000 back from the deck to load you use 1/2 strap rating so you need 4000 lbs rating on front and back correct according to that single front back 1/4 gr70 is good for 3150 lbs tractor 5/16 gr70 is good for 4700 lbs tractor 3/8 is 6600lbs tractor
