Engine is seized, going to pop the head and see what we can do to loosen her up.
Seems to be complete though. I don't know much about this version of the Model U. If you have information please share. Also if there are a few experts on this engine I would love to talk to them sometime via Phone, much appreciated 👏 Have a great Orange day!

Let us know what it looks like when you pull the head off. Or, do you have one of the $25 phone borescopes to poke in the spark plug holes? They are a no brainer at the price these days.

Great find. I have a 37 U & UC so I can't help you much with the Continental. What year is it? Should be getting close to the Century Club.

We need to find a show somewhere between us and meet up with the 37 U's, mine is in original clothes for now. I also have a continental U, complete, with what I believe to be a bent valve and don't know why yet.

UPDATE- on the continental model U. Yep, taking you along for the ride! Well, 1 thing is for sure we are having alotta fun with this tractor! When I picked the tractor up, I could not turn the crank by hand, thus it was what I thought was a seized engine. HOWEVER....My uncle put a little more pressure on the crank and it rolled easy. My thought is that it was barely stuck, or...just tight enough that it needed a little more juice to turn the crank. Anyways, after a 30 year nap Outside with no cover, I think we are all shocked it's not any worse.
Yesterday, Dad popped the spark plugs and I took your advice and stuck a $71 bore scope down the plug holes. Below is what we saw. Cylinder walls look mighty clean. The worst valve Is shown, the rest are much better. I was able to take mystery Oil and dump a little in the plug holes for lubrication. It seemed to roll over a little easier as it works in. Thanks to good buddy Evan! Also see the carburetor, it's loaded and will need a full cleaning. We are going to keep chipping away at this when I have time, and we are excited to fire it up. And I'm really excited to show grandpa in the near future, I know he would love every minute of this. He can't get out much anymore. Thanks for staying tuned in, I may do a video on this tractor on Corn Picker Country channel! See ya! BTW- Finally got to check serial # - This tractor is a 1930 model! |
