175 transmission help please!

All shifting parts are done by cover removal. Now, when I say 4th gear, I mean 7th and 8th speeds....4th gear in the transmission. When you say 6th, you are talking 3rd gear in the trans. This different deep shift rail will NOT help a 3rd gear jump out problem. It can possibly be helped by relocating 3rd gears detent a little deeper, grinding a second detent for the neutral spring and doubling up both springs with a small diameter spring inside the existing one. I've done dozens of these as a fix short of transmission teardown.

Not to hijack post. I have a low hour 175 that jumps 4th gear. It acts like it don't set in detent at all. Tractor is showing right at 500 hours. Original tires front and back. It is easy to hold but when you let go it will fall out in no time at all.What would cause this?

Either the detent isn't working correctly or someone has the coupling and dog teeth all ground off in 500 hrs. Shift cover removal is the only way to know. It wouldn't take much to tell if the detent wasn't really working.....it would feel terribly soft.

Tracy, I fixed one a few years ago that had been doing that since it was almost new. You can fix yourself probably or bring it up here and I will do it for you. Did you get the hay baler fixed? Call me and I will explain how to fix your tranny. Thanks

The second inner detent spring I use is 70229458 from AGCO.

Jack, I did fix the baler. When it warms up I am going to check the detent. I have always thought you could barely tell it had a detent at all. Thanks Tracy

I talked with our local AGCO mechanic he said if I have extra travel after the detent stop I can buy some time by moving the detent. I am talking 3rd 4th gear which some refer as 2nd. My question is how far back do I move the detent I am guessing 1/16 or maybe an 1/8 where do I start? thanks, you guys are great!!
