i have all the parts rounded up, bearings, seals, shim gaskets but i can't get the front bearing pulled off of the input shaft. it is tight against the gear and i can't get a bearing separator behind it. i'm scared to press the shaft because i can't get it out of the gearbox housing. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm assuming it's a tapered roller bearing?? If you have room, torch the roller cage off removing the rollers, then carefully torch the rest of the bearing off the shaft. If you don't want to use a torch, a die grinder works good also. Do the same except don't grind all the way through the bearing that is on the shaft. Grind through leaving just a little as to not go through and booger the shaft. Then take a chisel and put it in the groove you cut with the die grinder and give it a good whack. Bearing should split and release the tension and be able to be slid off shaft easily. Hope this all makes sense.

If you could get some sort of prying tool between it and the gear, you might take a torch to the inner race in a small area , heating it quick and prying at the same time. Once the heat gets to the shaft, it will catch up with the growth of the race real fast. One pry bar on each side and a 3rd hand to run the heat, would make it easier.
