My firsts, bought at the same time, were a 1951 Meteor (Canadian Ford) Tudor and a 1941 Ford pickup that I got for 20 bucks!. It was an ex military version as it was a floor shift model. Civilian versions had the column shift. I soon sold the Meteor as the girls seemed to like the truck, and it was more fun! I had a second one the same a few years later, which is still around the area as a Hot Rod show truck. I guess you can guess our ages by what our first vehicles were!!

I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

It would certainly be nice if they still offered such a basic truck. My first large truck was/is, (still have it) a 1957 Mack B-61 s/a tractor. Original engine that has never been broken into with only routine maintenance through the years.

the first I paid for, 1963 Galaxie 500 convertible. Had three before when in school, were hand me downs. Then a 67 SS impala. First new 73 Chevelle Laguna, 350, drove that over 200,000 miles. Lots more since, just too many.

My first car was a 1959 Ford full size car. 332 V8, 3 on the tree. I put a Holley 4bbl on it and changed the shifter to a Hurst on the floor 3-speed shifter. Was a 4 dr car!! Paid $400 for the car, shifter was $49.95!!!! Lol. Car was 10 years old when I got it. Was repaired at local wrecking yard where I worked. Back end had been smashed so they put a new back half on. Cut and welded between seats. You could see the bronze weld all across when lifted the rubber mat. They did lots of them this way. We had a guy there that would assemble one in two days and send to paint booth! Those were good days then! I got it in 1969!

On graduating high school my dad bought brand new Ford Courier, that was mine to drive going to college 40 miles away. I don't know if he even drove it a dozen times. In 78 near college graduation I found 75 Chev C10 with less than 20,000 mile. Has a 350 with 4 speed, Heavy 1/2 ton so no cat. The owner had built a new house and hauled building materials. Once house was built he wanted better gas mileage. It is still here, has not run in 30 years. It has about 175,000 hard ranch miles, lots of dings but no rust.
