I will be in Independence, MO / Kansas City area tomorrow - June 23rd.  Does anyone on this site know if the Gleaner combine factory is still in operation at Independence?  If so, do they offer any guided tours?  I hope so cause I would like to see where my 1978 K2 was built.

I am pretty sure all Gleaners are now built in Hesston, Kansas. Been several years ago that Agco moved them there.

Rfdeere, you are right - thanks.  I did an internet search for about it right after I posted the question.  The article I found noted the move back in October 2000.  I guess I will have to scrap the idea or travel to Hesston.

I had an opportunity to get a personal tour of the plant back in July of 1995.
Quite a site to see the lot full of newly built Gleaners waiting to go to their final destinations.
Also impressive to see the assembly line where the Agco-Allis, AgcoStar, White and Massey Ferguson tractors were built.
The highlight of my tour was to see Agcostar serial #2 sitting in the yard and getting to sit in it.
A tour I will never forget.

Eric, if you're that close, I would drive by the old facility.  It is located on S. Cottage in Independence.  As Randy mentioned, combine production no longer takes place in Independence, but the buildings are still there.  There is a business currently operating out of part of the facility but I don't recall the name.  I toured the plant several times and last drove by in Fall 2000 as production was migrating to Hesston.  There was still quite a bit of inventory in the yard at that time.  Someone posted a picture of the facility a few years ago and the "Gleaner Combines" lettering was still on the building.
