Quicker to ask instead of researching, changing my NF WD to WF. Is the steering shaft the same length for both?

Spent 2 partial days removing the NF and installing the WF. The steering universal joint was a bear to remove, well mainly driving the pins out. Had no luck driving it out so I decided to drill it out. Got a 1/8” carbide drill bit thru, went to the next bit but snapped off right before exiting the other side. It felt like it grabbed hard and snapped. So, my buddy Mutt pulled out his torch and he proceeded to get it red hot as I started to drive the pin. Finally after a half hour of pounding the pin came out. Drove it off the shaft and then removed the NF. The next day the process of getting it off the steering shaft started the same way but I couldn’t budge the pin until once again heating it cherry red. Finally drove the pin out. Tried to drive the universal off the steering shaft, even with it red hot it wouldn’t budge. The universal needed to be replaced because it was worn out so I asked Mutt to cut the universal parallel to the shaft with the torch. He did so without damaging the shaft. After some pounding it finally came off. Installing the new used universal joint was simple after cleaning up the shafts. The rest of the WF install was pretty easy. It’s all back together for the new owner.

My WD45 that I gave to my kid has a quick change front end on it. Takes 15-20 minutes to swap out to a narrow, wide or single front. I have all 3 fronts for it. Not sure when or what models had this option?

I never knew that existed on the WD45. I would like to see some pictures of that. That has to be rare.
Oddly, the new owner didn’t want me the install the power steering on it that I purchased for it a few years ago. I will possibly put that up for sale at some point. He said his dad’s WD didn’t have power steering so he didn’t want it either

If you have a wide front end already, you drop off the axle assembly and unbolt the swing arm from the steering box, leaving the steering box in the chassis. Clean off the bottom of the mounting surface where the swing arm attached (running a thread tap into all holes and cleaning them) and simply install the narrow front post (or single front wheel fork) and you now have utilized the "interchangeable front axle" design. The six bolts that hold the NF post or single front wheel fork are fine thread and grade 8. They must be lubed when installed and gotten TIGHT and kept tight.

That was/is a pretty handy feature! When I went through the WFE on Fred, bolted a 'corn-picker' tricycle front pedestal on and the tractor was not down for any time. Never been lucky enough to find a SFW for a reasonable price.

Uncle had the "corn picker" narrow front to put on his wide front 45 when mounting the picker. I suppose most of them have been tossed by now.
