I am kind of fishing for some advice or input here. Here's the deal: I have a concorde air seeder, and bought a new to me, but used air cart for it about a year ago, with a 2 cylinder air cooled Lombardini diesel engine that that powers the blower. When I put it to work this last spring, the engine turned out having more oil leaks than not, and resulted in quite a mess, as well as dripping oil on the belt and causing it to slip. Now I have been around a few of these Lombardini engines on the concordes (They were a factory installed option by concorde) and for the most part never heard of any trouble with them, but I am considering buying an Allis power unit to put on there instead of the Lombardini, because I have no idea where to take the lombardini to to get it worked on, and I think it would be kind of neat to put an allis engine on there. I'm not sure what model Allis power unit would work best, but It would have to be D17 sized or smaller. Even a D17 would be an over kill, cause I'm thinking that 20 to 25 HP would be enough. So, any thoughts here; should I try to get the Lombardini fixed up and stick with it, or would an appropriately sized allis power unit be a god substitute, and if so, where could I get a good rebuilt one, and how much should I expect to pay for one? If 20 to 25 HP is all you need, I'd guess a B125 power unit ought to have enough to run it. I've repowered stuff with different engines over the years. If you're good at fabricating, go for it.

You should be able to get Lombardini parts through Kohler. However, if you're planning on having someone else do the work, I don't know if most of Kohler's service techs are trained on Lombardini engines or not.

The only down side I see is the same problem we have with our sprayer, which is equiped with a Honda Gas engine, and that is you always have to have gas on hand for just that, where our trucks all have diesel tanks on for the farm equipment.

Any one know where I could get a good B125 power unit? I think it wouldn't be terribly difficult to mount, and having gas around for it wouldn't be an issue for us. I probably wouldn't be as efficient as the diesel, but it shouldn't be just too bad either. Thanks for the input, Darrel

Check Surplus Center, last catalog I got they had a small 15hp Kubota Diesel, and some smaller and larger too.......if you want diesel

I bought a used Simplicity 7790 with a 2 cylinder Lombardini air-cooled engine in it (10LD-400-2). It was leaking fuel from the top of the fuel pump. A couple of new copper washers and a couple of O-rings solved the problems. I got the copper washers from the local fuel injection repair station and the O-rings at the hardware store. I think the leak was mostly from the O-rings.
I did have to overhaul the engine due to grass plugging up the cooling fins and the rings losing their temper from overheating. I got the pistons, rings, and a gasket kit from http://www.psep.biz/ . It was an easy engine to work on. It now runs fine and just sips fuel. Kohler has bought them and you may be able to get service manuals from them. I have service and parts manual for my engine, which I could email you if you're interested. |
