I noticed a lot of blow by on the XT lately. Im thinking of rebuilding her. Now here is the question? This is goin to become a puller wen I talk the new wife into letting me buy another one, so do I leave it stock or boar it out and not mess with the fuel? If I go stock how much would it cost for a complete rebuild? If I was to go bigger holes how much would that be, and how big can one go on a 301 and what would be safe to go?

I did my 7000's 301 with $580 in head work (new copper sleeve and installed new guides/valves/springs/retainers that came with the engine kit, so not included in this price) for around $2500. That was with a PowerMaxx high compression kit (smaller combustion chamber). The only overbore I know of is the Herschell Adams hi-compression kit, that bumps your compression to 16.3:1 (like the PowerMax kit), but also increases bore to 3-15/16 vs the std 3-7/8. I guess you could go custom parts, but that =more $$$, and the Herschell Adams kit is at least 1.5 times the cost of the other kits.
Here's what I did to my engine: Valve Job (kit came with engine kit from Walt's Tractor Parts) New Cam bearings New sleeves/pistons/rings New main/rod bearings (std/std, polished crank with emory cloth myself) New connection rod piston pin bushings All new gaskets All new seals JB welded the cylinder bores to smooth out any pitting so the new sleeve orings would seal better That's all I can think of that I did to the engine. The best advice I can give you is to make out a list of parts you will need for the rebuild (don't buy parts until the engine is apart), then contact whoever you choose to purchase from, and tell them what you need and ask them what comes in their kit. I got the cam bearings and piston pin bushings kind of for free from Walt's because their old supplier had supplied them, but PowerMaxx didn't in their engine kits, so since they had told me they were in the engine kit, they shipped them to me at no cost. The first thing to do is know what kind of pulling you are going to get into. Are there established rules you will need to follow? Dont spend or build something without knowing that.
