As far as "other models", I have a 42 (wartime) steel wheeled B that has cast iron valve cover and oil pan.

My '48 WC has a stamped steel valve cover and oil pan. I also have what I believe is a pre WW II WC engine and it also has a stamped steel oil pan and valve cover.

I have two cast valve cover and pans, than one on a 57 Wd45.
Don’t think the 57 originally had a cast pan though…

I have a war time C with cast iron valve cover, oil pan, and cast iron oil pan on each final. So is the cast iron thing a war time install?

I think that's right Lon. Very early ones may have had them too?
I have an iron pan around here for a 201/226 I'm going to put on if I ever get around to building another engine.

the story is that STEEL plate was at a premium during the WAR and was restricted to that use... Cast iron or Cast steel was not as important... Companies tried to SHIFT some of their STEEL parts to CAST to help the war effort.... when the war was over, MOST shifted back to steel plate for parts.

What about the WC stamped steel rearend during the war instead of the normal cast iron?

All 18 1933 WCs and up to about 700 something (?) ‘34’s had cast iron valve covers and oil pans.
