Indefinant Backorder (engine Kit) AGCO

I do not stock the kits as many dealers do not .I drop all the kit that I sell across the so called counter. Only order in what I need for the shop .

   8.25 .   Ware house dose have them . Just checked .

Parts list says you can order a set (one pistons worth) for $25 i think

I just (finally) got set up as a Reliance (Powermax) dealer and placed my first order for a couple tractors I'm working on.

Im gonna try this power max kit. I havent ordered yet. I gotta wait to hear from my machinist on bearing size. I will post once I get it in. Im hoping its what I want... still havent confirmed if its a power crater style piston. Nobody seems to know. Guess ill be the guinea pig. It is 4" bore and 8.25 comp

With todays lower grade gasolines is it necessary to use premium gas with 8.25 pistons?

Man that would be a bummer I hope not!     like the DR. says, regular gas should be just fine. you wouldn't expect to have to put premium in a Gleaner E3 or allis 175 Would ya?    

On a side note gas down to 2.02 here today, I thought about driving my combine to town and fillin her up. beats 5 gallon cans and Cheap!

dr allis,   what was allis's reason for the timing change?detonation,torque,or horsepower or a combination of things?

They had all the information needed to find out what ever they wanted to know .I just sold one these kits this morning .Customer CALLED me and I answered every ? he had.   Thanks

I don't believe you will ever find ANY other gasoline farm tractor that had more than 8 to 1 compression.....none. That ratio was apparently thee maximum that the AG Engineers figured any hard working farm tractor engine could stand without detonation problems on tractor fuel. In the case of the A-C model 175 gas, there was even a Service Bulletin instructing Dealer Techs to retard the timing 2 degrees if a Customer was having detonation issues. In the case of the D-17 engines, the retarding 5 degrees was related to center main bearing pounding with the increased compression from the WD-45 engine. The 2 degree retardation on the 175-170- D-17 means placing the FIRE mark or F-25 mark at the very top of the sight hole in the bellhousing. Please do NOT infer that just because your car can have 9 to 1 compression ratios means a farm tractor can too. Modern cars have detonation sensors to control the actual timing to keep detonation under control. Farm tractor timing on an A-C only has the RPM centrifugal advance to take it from TDC at idle to 25 degree BTDC at 1400 RPM or more.

Hey, not to beat a dead horse...

I called into my AGCO dealer (Flieg's) in Ste. Gen. MO to order some other parts and while I had him on the phone I asked my parts guy Jerry what the deal was about the AGCO kits.  He did say the 170/8:1 kit was on indefinite back-order.   But the 7:25:1 D17 and the 8.25:1 engine kits were available according to him.   D17 Kit was $1178, part number 79015760.   175 kit was $1033.00 part number 79016625.   Mike

Well regarding the backorder. If it has changed that is news to me. I called at least 10 agco dealers in my search and all said the same thing that the d17 kit is discontinued. The 170 kit had 2 in existance and the 175 backordered indefinitely. Maybe I'll call again I guess there is a chance they ran another batch...
