Got a question, I have a '48 WD that needs an overhaul. A gracious fellow forum member gave me a wd45 engine also in need of an overhaul. My question is will the 45 engine fit on my WD frame? My assumption is yes but before I buy the rebuild kit for the 45 I wanted to make sure that there is not a compatibility issue. Thanks in advance.

If you don't look at the serial numberstampedon theblock, you wouldn't know it's a 45engine. Will drop straight in and bolt up.
When you find yourself in a hole,PUT DOWN THE SHOVEL!!!

Yes it will. A WD45 is a WD with some improvements.
When they upgraded the rear, hand clutch and engine they renamed the WD the WD45.

Look for post on wd45 build ups. You can get a fair amount more power in a rebuild with little or no cost increase. If it is to be a "stock" type rebuild. I sugest E 170 or 175 piston kits You can also have the cam and lifters sent out to be reground for more power. Barney Taylor did mine.

Bob, You can tell a WD engine from a WD45 engine just by looking at them.

Now.......if the WD block is in good shape, you can put the WD-45 components in/on it and it will look stock but still have all the power of the WD-45.
I would use the 45 crank for 1/2" more stroke.
Get the 1/8" overbore 45 pistons and sleeves.
Use the 45 "tall" head.
Use the 45 carburetor.
The tractor will look pretty much original; only the experts will know.
