 Topic: WD45 Snap Coupler Screw Rivets

I'm stuck. I'm rebuilding the 2 snap couplers on my WD45 lift arms. Simple, right!? HAH! Two of the screw rivets are broken off. These little things hold the springs that snap the coupler latch. I've tried drilling, milling, and grinding the broken pieces out. Very little success. What are they made of, Kryptonite? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

I've got to do the same thing some day. I was thinking maybe heating to soften the rivets. They are very hard. Tried to drill them out once back in my high school days but not since. Too bad there isn't a place to exchange them for a rebuilt set. Does that give anyone here that may have mastered the removal of the rivets any ideas?

I have done a couple sets, Heat them and let them cool, then they drill OK, also use the best drill bits you can find not the cheap ones.
start with 1/8" drill bit.

When you get the 2 Rivets out of each 'Lift Arm Latch" you will need one of these kits to make them like new again.

Use a drill press and buy several bits I used IRWIN cobalt. You will suceed.

Like Matt says, heat them red hot, let em cool, they will be soft and will drill ok. Ive dont quite a few and thats the only way to go, absolutly no frustration this way!!!! HTH

You guys are great! I heated them with an acetylene torched, cooled, then drilled using my drill press. They came out easily, nothing special after I softened them. I never would have thought about "unheat-treating" them! Thanks.

I used 1/4-20 or 5/15 threaded studs to replace the rivet on a set I fixed. Get the springs hooked, then thread on an acorn nut.

I had to have a bolt removed a few years ago out of a front end with out damaging it, look for one of these in your neck of the woods.
