I found some old farm magazines. A few of them had Allis ad's in them. I found this one from 1981 and two 1966 issues had 3 page fold out ads that had a Gleaner and a 190. I will have to figure out how to scan something that big.

I think the add is wrong. I think the Powershift description describes the Power director and vice versa.
Still cool add. It was a simpler time for me when I was a kid.

Byron, I ran a 7045 power director back in the mid 80's a whole lot and it had 5 speed shifter with another shifter having 2 forward and one reverse and then the PD on the floor. That makes 20 forward. That's the way I remember it but my memory has gone to CRS lately.

charlie, the range lever with slow and fast ranges had park also, reverse was part of the 5 speed transmission. Some tractors only had 4 speed transmissions for the 16 speeds. not sure what the story with 4 or 5 speed trannies is. DR Allis will fill us in likely. I remember those ads in farm journal.

Well that makes the diagnosis of CRS a positive. I guess R was one of the 5 speeds. I always wished it would have been a PS anyway. To take off in road gear with 500 bushel of corn behind was a wear on the clutch even on the low side of the PD.

the 4 speed power director was standard, the 5 speed power director was a fairly low cost option. I dont remember very many 4 speeds, by the time the 7020s and 7045s came along they had dropped the 4 speed option and were pushin the power shifts. I sold 1 7045 PD, then the rest were power shifts.

Norm's book stated that by 1981 57% of the 7000 series were sold as powershifts.
Quite possibly that were ahead of Deere as I sure don't remeber many of the 42/44/46/4840's having powershifts and if I remember right they were still using 8 speeds not 12 like the AC's.
