On August 9th the Mid Iowa antique power assn. had a club day. The annual show was cancelled due to covid 19. Moldboard plowing is always part of the show, my favorite part. There were crops in the field and ground to plow so I loaded up the 45 and 3-16's for the day. Wish I could have gotten some video but no. Couple of stills will have to do. The ground was like concrete! Always is in August there, Had to drop to low gear a few times, never had to do that before. There were only three other tractors that plowed, and they didn't do a lot. I plowed for about an hour and a half, probably had a big, stupid grin on my face the whole time! Had intended to post this on Monday 8-10 but we had this little wind go through here..... I must be getting caught up with the clean-up as this the first time I've thought about posting this. ![]() |

Great pics. Good to take a break from storm cleanup. That fact it's been so dry probably didn't help matters for plowing.

I actually drove through rain to get there! Knew it wouldn't be enough to slow things down. Took some of the 'New' off the tires, even the fronts. I want to plow at one of the plow days like you see on you-tube someday. You know the ones, soil is just perfect, guys pulling 4 bottoms with a 45 like it's not even back there. Going to get that old girl out today, change the middle and back share on the plow then put the carryall on in preparation for next weekends tractor ride at Green Mountain. I'll try to get some pics of that too.

Love the pictures. I have not been to a plow day for about 3-4 years. Plowed with a D-12, G, and C. Loved every second. Was so excited - had not sat on a working tractor for about 45 years - when I started that I drove down a while and realized I had not dropped the plow. Everybody was nice about it but I did get a lot of looks
Hope you got through the "heavy winds" well. Wish all my friends in Iowa the best. Good Luck! Bill Long

That's interesting, it handles it pretty good. Just don't get in a hurry trying to pass! Really need to check into a tuner chip for it.

Mike,
Very nice to see the pictures of your WD45 and plows. You have that tractor set up nice with the original front weights too. Humm neighbor has a set of those that He might want to part with I will have to talk to him about them too. He is a Allis guy but has not mounted them on a tractor yet. Your 45 looks like it is ready to take on that whole farm! Great shots! Beautiful farm land at your plow day! The work you did on the tractor has paid off. in smiles per mile!:) Looking forward to your tractor ride pictures too! Regards, Chris

Thanks Chris, really happy with the way this tractor has turned out. Never had a blueprint or anything, just put it together as I acquired parts. Still a little sheet-metal work to do and a real paint job would be nice.

The big chunks in the plowed field reminded me of trying to plow at the Half-Century of Progress show in Rantoul, IL. I took my WD-45 and #73 SC plow there one year. My gosh, it was hard plowing. I needed more weight at the time (which I now have). It was too wet (after a big rain) but the water hadn't soaked in yet and the ground was still hard underneath. Don't think I'll try to do that again. Been taking my #109 disc instead ever since.
